I already have a desktop . It's so I can whip it out at a moments notice (oh no what have I started now) lol
I have old laptops that won't run the latest cura. One on windows 10 one now on windows 7. I don't " need" a gaming laptop but an i7 with 24 Meg ram appealed to me.
I have used my HPDv6 for over 10 years and it cost 850 so less than a 100 quid per year I find reasonable.
I don't have 850 to throw on a laptop now but have 250 coming in from some work I did and as I am just wasting my time with the acer aspire 7730 as Gaz found out that Cura no longer runs on win 7.
The HP is on win 10 but has a switchable graphics and Cura can't see open GL 2.0 drivers.
My concern is buying another Dud cheaply...... lol
do you need the latest version of cura?
just use an older version?

actually its you that wants the latest version of cura but your using an old laptop where drivers dont exist for the latest windows 10-11
cura does run on an older system as long as you have both the drivers for the laptop and also some updated drivers for windows
as goes for windows 10 saying it will work and you will have no problem with your machines is true to a degree untill you try installing something that needs the driver like cura does and then it dosnt work
as you already know that with the nightmare you just gone through
as goes for hp or acer neither company has to make drivers for old machines for windows 10 or 11 id expect it on a 2-3 year old machine
a base unit is far better as you can change and upgrade a gcard at anytime

it will always be a concern when its to do with older laptop machines and yes you can buy duds as the drivers wont work with windows 10
unless you can find windows 10 drivers for them leave them alone the same can be said with windows 11
a note here many laptops can run windows 10 but it uses basic drivers to run the screeen its when you need certain software like open gl also in games reference you will find it wont run the program or the game as the basic windows driver dosnt have what you need
Yes I use the new version and it has many upgrades.
Yes I appreciate a desktop is more upgradeable but I already have one in both places. It's a laptop I need to be able to have mobility.
I have had cura running on the HP but it keeps switching its graphics. Then it stops working.
Thats why i am.being very careful what i end up buying.

unless you buy a 2 year old machine or less you will have no chance
the same can be said if the laptop companys dont upgrade there drivers to support that machine

you might have had it running but windows 10 kept enforcing its drivers to run hence the reason why it kept switching its graphics card drivers
an update will have caused the driver to stop working and because windows 10 dosnt have the open gl driver thats why as its only a basic gcard driver its ample enough for basic use
OK spent a bit of time looking around and as this is very local to me I am tempted to take a look.

i like lenevo stuff had one for years at work and home never had a fault apart ferom a hd going down but for the time it was up and running id expect that it wsa never turned off
I am as much concerned with how the scams work on Facebook.
The price seems low for the spec?? Or am I missing something.There is a rake of adverts on facebook offering free delivery within an hour.....wow. That surely must be a scam?

seams to me that there trying to make it look good on paper it is a higher spec office mechine as i can see prob ok for cad and stuff and video edit

To be honest its CAD and video stuff I want it for. Also to move around controlling 3D printers and CNC laser etc. Although to be honest once I am a bit more sorted they will all have their own controlling PC or laptop and they will run on low spec crap.
I purchased my HP over 10 years ago so Max its cost is 85 per year. Great value but finding 850 (or more for a faster gaming laptop) is not going to be easy.
Typical me trying to cram everything into one and probably not "needing" it really.
Cura has peed me off as I spent 3 weekends getting close but not close enough.
I should just realise I only need latest cura on my Desktop at home rather that short term "want" in the caravan at weekends.

And I'm sure they have missile the laptop as a gaming laptop but later in the add can be used for gaming
I'm not a tech specialist I know know pcs nd laptop but not my every day work but I'm sure the g card in there is capable but not designed for gaming but probably better than a basic office laptop

Or as earlier in the thread as for the serial number so you can cheak the website that shoukd give you more detail but as they are selling they should be able to give you this basic stuff
And note the 194 us not 32 gb ram that us 90 extra ish to have 32gb so 280 money
