I have an old maroon velvet curtain I lay on the floor for such takings to bits……makes finding little shiny things far easier, also they dont roll so far.

Painted a few bits. I've set up a caustic stripping tank using an old 25gallon cold water cistern that was headed for the skip outside a nearby house that's been ripped out, and this has given me the impetus to start painting bits.
Last night got some bits in primer
Then tonight I got some top coat on the cabinet doors, gear lever housing, cover plate for the electrical sockets and the covers for the Z leadscrew.
I've never been too good at spraying and tonight @Dcal came round, looked at my spray gun and said I'm never going to get there with that thing. He at least got it set up enough that it would put some paint on but the short story is I need a better spray gun.

Look at the plastic on the wall to get an idea of how hard it was to get a decent fan and the most of the test patterns have already been sprayed over.
It's bad enough trying to spray with a gun that is a pain to set up but the even bigger issue with @Pete. gun was it wouldn't say set.
Definitely time for a change.

So today I set about fixing the damaged edge on the tilting table, so that it can be painted. The table has a lump knocked off one end, which forms part of the coolant well. I didn't want to weld or braze it because I didn't want to put heat into this thin table so I decided to pin and glue a piece in.
First I cut the damaged area square. Later I used a file and grinder to get a good fit-up
I found a nice chunk of grey iron, blued it up and scribed the profile in the blue.
Then I scribed the inside line, made a couple of test cuts, offered it up again and once I was happy with the location, turned it over and drilled 3 holes in the iron. These were transferred into the part to allow me to use drill bits as 3 locating pins. I ground the inside profile with the part still attached as it gave me a good way of holding it. Easier than trying to grind a thin part.
Once I got the piece cut off I dug out my high-strength araldite. This is far stronger curing that your average araldite glue - proper industrial stength stuff.
Mixed it up and applied it to the table.
Part now clamped in place for 24hr curing.
Once it's cured (tomorrow evening) I will drill the holes out bigger and tap them for threads then loctite some hardened grub screws into the holes. Then I'll cut the height of the piece I let into the table edge down and die grind the inside profile. Once it's done it should be fairly strong and difficult to spot as a repair once it's painted.

I have never tried glueing and pinning something, one to remember for future.
I use a suitably sized cardboard box when spraying smaller sized stuff, piece of round bar poked through to hang bits off. A light bulb on a stand in as a heat source to keep the paint warm to help drying.I've ordered one of these, they get great reviews and seem to be a decent value for money gun:

Table repair is done. I cut the top off the inset piece then drilled and tapped the holes for 6ba screws which I loctited in then cut the tops off.
Then I ground the shape on the outside with a mini grinder
Then did the inside with a combination of mii grinder and die grinder and that was the repair complete.
I received my new spray gun in the post today so I gave the table a quick spray with aerosol upol etch primer and left it under the heat lamp whilst I mixed some paint and set the gun up like @Dcal showed me.
Painted the bottom of the table first, since I knew I could flip it over and it would sit on the masking tape
Then I painted the top, doing my best to get as much paint as I could in the bottom of the tee slots becaus eI learned when I had my Herbert mill that it really helps to clear the chips out if it's painted.
Here's the repair section all painted up.

Sometimes the gremlins win despite your best efforts.
I was cleaning the contacts on a rotary power switch last week. Took it indoors to do the work so if anything escaped it could only land on the leather sofa (as a precaution I covered that with old bedsheet), anything that pinged further would be obvious on the laminate floor.
A spring pinged, I heard it hit the leather sofa and I'm still looking for it. A passing volunteer even got down on her hands and knees to help and she couldn't find it either.
Wanted: 1 pingfeckit to replace the one I lost or a working rotary power selector (6 way or 3 way) for a MIG
Nice work on the milling machine so far
Thanks to @Hopefuldave for teaching me a new word, I can see it getting a lot of use on this forum !

Just tidying up this morning and I found the lump of cast iron I used as a mixing board for the araldite 2013. This stuff is tough as hell, here's a video of my attempt to chip it off. Bear in mind that there's no prep or particular care in cleaning here just a quick wipe off with brake cleaner.

Not many people are feeling the love for that green. I've just bought a tin of RAL6011 for another machine andI have to admit it is a much nicer colour and more "machine tool". I will have to give this some thought because if I'm going to do it I have to do it soon before the main chassis goes into paint. What does bother me is if I do re-paint it I'm either going to have to strip everything off and start again or run the risk of the machine looking really scruffy as it gets used and the bright green shows through the duller green.
