progress has been made....

100 bags of rubble stored in the back garden, first 10 taken to the tip, all to do now is to take enough base out so its at the right grade and then pour concrete....

Well found a big rather important looking bolt loose in the depths of the bobcat and discovered it's what holds the back end of the drive pump to the engine frame!

Went to put it back but the washer fell into the void of 1" thick mud/grease/oil and ain't getting found anytime soon so drilled a random thick bit of aluminium and with some shoving my hand shoulder deep up it's rear farmer style whilst doing a one arm pullup to lever the pump into position it's fixed!
Couldn't feel the bolt hole at all with gloves so gave up on them and now all the pores and creases on my hands are permanently tattooed with decades of grime despite scrubbing for 10 minutes...

After spending several hours yesterday put the steering assembly back together after flipping the wear blocks I adjusted the positions today and now it actually centers the levers and doesn't creep anymore!

I did have a 40mm thick 1m² gym mat originally but it sucked up all the rain so looked like I say in a bucket full of water

It's the same at most farms. If you have an empty shed it is used for livestock or feed storage and machinery lives outside!

My nieces husband built a machinery shed this year. He failed the TB test and couldn't sell any stock for 4 months, just as calving season was starting.
The machinery shed became a calf shed for 70 calves, all getting hand reared!

Cheap submersible pond pump fitted as a coolant pump to the bandsaw. Works pretty well for £15. Even wired it in properly to the motor so it comes on and off automatically after a few initial test cuts.

Rath's PR88 barrier cream was suggested on here some years ago, I forget by who. I tried it - and not used anything else since. Fantastic stuff. Really does work, and makes cleaning hands much easier.

start time today, before it was properly light, 08:00. i got in through the door at 20:30. 12.5hrs. no breaks, worked straight through. both of us are properly knackered.

all the groundwork, digging and rebar mesh sorting done a little before 12. the rest of it was just mixing and pouring concrete.





looks soooo much better than what was there before.

i accidentally deleted the vid of him running it over when i tried to download it.

Firstly I fixed the leaking tyre, popped the valve out and used the dremel on the rust flakes. The bead is almost 1" thick hence crowbar on a strap to just get in!

I then bolted one length of track with my plates I made previously and it fits! The strap with lipped plates came from an ambulance but clip on perfectly to the links so wasn't too hard getting it together.


Actually kicks around less gravel with the tracks than only wheels but they won't be on permanently since would destroy the concrete. Doing the other side tomorrow which might be a little harder but we'll see, thankfully still got the record t234c 1-8" chain pipe wrench that I sold as buyer doesn't want it sent till 5th so can use it and the 36" stillson to wiggle the other side together.

Another cae of looks can be deceiving.

It looked tidy, complete and I was told it was good to go.

Was it?

NO.

The motor was burnt out, so a good age related spare was fitted.

Both headlights were blown, I had to order new.

Odd it had a new axil, with tyres, but the PTFE bearings were so worn, you could feel the wear, so again spares bin raided.

The slot guid and pick up braids were good.
A quick test showed it had a good turn of speed.

my drive is finally fixed. a few more days to fully cure and im done.

this morning the final job was to broom finish, much better than the previous wet trowelled finish



just got to take the timber out and shovel dirt into the channel to the right and clear the crap away.

A few weeks ago, in the run up to this silly season.
I contacted a Wooden Railway manufacture about getting spares and repairs details.

They were very generous and sent me pegs, guilds and cutters to repair broken track..

This is an example of our repairs.

These had the male parts broken off.
The guide allows you to clamp on and with a supplied flat bit drill out the retaining pins.

Then with the shaped sanding lack a clean up of the wood, before a wax.

Theses straight track were salvaged from longer lengths. Placed into a Jig we made. Cut down to a smaller length and the female lot cut into the new end.

They are to the manufacture specifications. As they were very kind to give us the details.
