I bit the bullet and peeled back the rubber on my Canon Autozoom 814 to expose some screws and figure out why it's not working.

As suspected, the handle/battery compartment connects to the camera with a slip-ring arrangement, and as suspected there was no power at the contact, so clearly a fault in the handle. Got that apart and couldn't find anything wrong with it, put it back together and it works just fine.
Now to figure out how to develop it. It came with an exposed roll of Afga Moviechrome, maybe it has something naughty on it.
