having been searching round the forum for the past 10 mins, i found that there is one subject that isnt covered by a running thread, for stuff that doesn't warrant its own thread...

so here it is. post here for stuff that you didn't make yourself, but did repair and you want to show off

i'll go first.

i repaired a cracked bearing housing on my lathe with tig brazing.

not terrible for a first go....

not great, as a pro would be embarrassed by it, but its strong, correctly aligned, and that's all that matters to me. ill get better....

yes, plus ive never used one, plus screwcutting is reportedly hard and its not ready to work yet....

its beyond my skillset at the moment even if i did have a bigger lathe and all the tooling.

Ah I see, screw cutting is daunting because of all the bad press it gets but in reality it's not a big deal.

Screwcutting is not difficult. You just need to understand what it is you're trying to achieve and the steps you go through to get there.

I felt the same as we were not allowed to do it at O level metal work. You had to wait until A level for that, which sadly I never did.

Nice idea for a thread. I'll chip in, started stripping my 3hp b&s engine. It originally from a hay bale lifter. It has a reduction gearbox. It will be stripped, cleaned, painted, new gaskets all that jazz. Piston and rings look ok and there is no carbon on the intake so I'll leave them alone I think.

Got a non working superwinch h14w PTO winch. Spent 20 minutes stripping the end casing and repaired the sheared pin caused by some monkey trying to disengage the freespool dog clutch by either kicking or using a hammer on the handle. It’ll only engage in one position and the drum needs to revolve by hand to engage the dog

Cbr 900rrr wouldn't idle, found the pilot jets to be blocked. Needed a bit of heat for the solidified fuel to fall out, runs a dream now

20mm to 6mm, then 6mm to 2.5mm, so a bit fiddly.

I made one last week for wacking down some hardcore, also not touched the mma welder for ages and surprised myself how well the welds came out

Just about to make a tamper out of a couple of 8" lengths of 100lb railway line that I acquired last week.

However, working the night shift last night delivering a long rail crossing into Doncaster and not getting to bed until 5 this morning has rendered mind and body below par . And as the log burner is lit and there's a nice bottle of 19 Crimes calling, the tamper can wait .

But having seen @bigegg 's design, it's given me inspiration . And a use for one of my innumerable collection of grp handled rail tools...

I'm really getting to like my little GYS168 tig/stick machine - much smoother than the clarke 190te buzzbox i've had *forever*.
The fact i can move it about without putting my back out is a nice bonus.

Not got a photo as there's nowt to see, but have just repaired the belt clip on OH's ipod that she dropped and broke .

Had to delicately drill out the plastic bracket with a 2mm drill, then reassemble it using the shank from a pop rivet as a hinge pin, while trying to subdue the spring that's stronger than the one on my wallet . Gained lots of brownie points as well as a good natured row for "...wasting time when I can buy a new one for £2.50 from fleabay..."

An hour in the mancave is worth 2 hours in front of the idiot box .

Hopefully more difficult to lose, now.

I've also poured half a cup of high zinc primer down the center of the handle. hopefully that will stop it rotting out again (in my lifetime at least).
Mind you, since its bright yellow now, it wont get lost in a hedge to rust for 10 years either

It inspired me to fix a problem I've been putting off. I was give one of those finger operated nuts for my 10" grinder. When I needed to change the blade it wouldn't come off and when using channel lock pliers to try to remove it, it broke.
So I spent a few minutes cutting it off, and now and forever will use the foolproof stock nut the grinder came with.
