Mk2 3.4 MOD Jaguar restoration

Last day of welding, just a patch on the rear valance where the tow bar went through, and finish the o/s/r seat pan but I cannot open that door far enough at the moment,

area under n/s of rear seat, foam seat base holds water! cut back to semi solid metal, at least 0.4mm thick! now pots of grinding to do!



Note the nails, I welded them to the rear chassis rail before dropping the patch over, then use the claw hammer to pull the patch down, top tip?

Patched up, going to be on grinder all day tomorrow!

What are you going to prime it with when the welding is done ? Epoxy ?

I thought mine looked very rust free! The engine looks to be later (ribbed cam covers) and has just been dropped into the hole, I would say it needs a complete drive train, plus looks to have quite a bit of rattle can spray, could be quite rusty, looks to have a lot of keep it going for another year bodges, missing a lot of mechanical plus engine could be wrong cc,

Thought it would be a good donor if someone had a mechanically good car with a rotten body.

What are you going to prime it with when the welding is done ? Epoxy ?

Never really used epoxy primer except for recently on my Transit chassis, I have 3 litres of high build etch primer so will probably go with that, may brush some Jotun under the arches etc, really not sure, I suspect that S type has quite a lot of filler and rust, worth saving BUT...............

Welding mostly done, paint purchased, have been modifying the o/s inner wing to move the wiper motor out by an inch or so to be able to get the wider HD8 carbs in with the original air filter ducting, will be painting the engine compartment maybe next week, not going for show quality!

Removed and stripped the pedal box and heater assy. the car has been standing since 1979, both master cylinders will take rubbers and be good to go, not so sure about the servo, cannot get the piston out at the moment! I have modified the right inner wing to move the wiper motor out around 1 1/4" to get the larger H8 SU carbs in, and welded up the nasty gash where someone took a chisel to the tunnel to get to the bell housing bolts for a clutch replacement!

I need a part, I removed the LUCAS wiper motor and put a rubber glove over the end of the cable, I noticed it had a roller to operate the park switch, I was using my die grinder with roloc discs and caught the glove, it went for a short flight across the shed, minus the roller! It may be the same as an old Land Rover or similar, does anyone have a spare roller, picture shows the switch and the empty space where it once lived! I assume it clips onto the square block on the end of the cable.

Could not see anything there but this shows the bracket but not the actual roller, may be around the back, Auto Electrical and Lucas Classic Parts (cecbrighton.co.uk) the top picture. looks like it is a DR3 wiper motor, the external wire is a clue to it having self parking, you can see the missing bit here, seems to be a rectangular part with a bracket for the roller, just above the rocker switch. the big clue is that wire going into the bottom of the casting, if it has a wire going to the top of the cover I don't think it will have the roller.

Most of the Lucas wiper motors were the same , it was just the gear wheel that was changed to alter the arc the wipers swept , so ( in theory) an MG, Morris , Austin , etc would have the same motor? It might be worth considering a later 2 speed motor for which parts are easier to find?

I'm sure all mine are later type motors I've seen your type on other builds, but most switch to the later 2 speed for ease of parts and reliability

Thanks for looking, I had a tidy up in the shed today but did not find it, could be anywhere! I think I will check out the rest of the motor and make sure it works before I fret too much!

Just bought a wiper cable with the roller, Ebay, £15.00 delivered.... that means I will trip over the missing one first thing tomorrow! two pack primer tomorrow in the engine bay! also managed to strip the servo, kit ordered! bore was good,

I think we have all been there!....Your ear tries to pick up the sound where the part landed, your eyes look for clues and witness marks on walls and such....Did you check your shirt pocket yet?
glad you found a replacement!...good luck there.
