Tallow for the wooden paddles, solder paste for tinning, stainless scouring pad for scrubbing, my first time so what do I know? used one thinner stick, the thicker one was my backup, proper solder! probably 40-50 years old...

Front end in high build primer, gearbox mounted to the engine, rear axle installed, all go........ the broom is about 5" shorter but the clutch aligned easily!

Shooters & hooters, blags, 'lags and Jags. As the series went on the age gap between the Fords and Jaguars reduced but those old Jaguars didn't have a Ford Oval clock!

was going to fit the five speed from the 1985 XJ6 but decided to keep the four speed all synchro with overdrive it came with from new, changed the diff for a higher ratio powerlock and replaced the seized 2.4 with a 3.4 from the XJ6, same family..............

How many 750 and 850 fuel lift pumps did you do, sick of doing them at one time, usual bodges. Flattened or clogged bag filters, pumps replaced and wrong fuel pipe used, wrong wiring used, and often only one fuel filter installed instead of both. Many often fitted the wrong way round, fuel pipes fitted to the wrong bank of cylinders under the bonnet, and as for the distributor caps and rotor arms, only replacing one instead of both.

The last one I did was on the E32 750i I had in storage when I retired, my ex daily driver, both fuel pumps had died, got it running and sold it for a grand, sad to see it go but would not have used it, too many toys............ still have a pair of M60 cams and rockers, on ebay, if you know anyone who needs some, cheap...

Had an 850 CSI in 2000 -2002 and wished I never sold it, usual 850 problems with the cracked sharks nose and incorrectly fitted fuel filters and piping and the gear selector O ring leaking, but did it go when you pressed the right pedal, V12 engine and manual gearbox and pure luxury, just needed a fuel bowser following me.

The Csi, manual with larger engine, roller rockers, rear wheel steering etc. would be the one to have kept......

I don't know if I have asked this on here but I am looking for some assistance with basic suspension set up for modern tyres / fast road use, as std. it has very little castor and + -- 1/2 degree negative camber, all shimmed so easy to set up, original tyres were either crossply or 185/80/15 on 5J 15 rims, I have some 6J 15 rims and am thinking of 205 / 65 / 15 tyres, suspension will be stiffened and lower, GAZ adjustable shocks, rubber bushes for now, not a lover of polybushes for road use, 20mm rear roll bar is probable, as in I have something if it fits.

so suggestions for camber, castor,

one other easy mod I have heard of is to reverse the upper wishbone pivot to lower it, this would have the effect of making the upper wishbone go higher up the arc when the suspension digs in and compresses, this in turn would increase the negative camber on the outside wheel on hard cornering, would also make it toe out or at least toe neutral but on hard cornering in a Mk2 the inside wheel is not in much contact with anything so I don't think the toe would be an issue, also the alteration is slight.

Well started to assemble the front suspension, and checking out the brake mods, was originally Dunlop bolt on pistons and solid discs, now four pot Zeus single pipe callipers and Mitsubishi vented discs, Why, well the callipers were NOS and free, and all the old brakes were totally seized up/ rusted/rubbish. Also tried one of my 6J wheels with 205/70 tyres, just to make sure it fitted! and I would say it did. shot some 2k clear over one of the dash parts, actually a bit I got from Ebay as mine had a few extra holes drilled in it, very impressed, will wet flat it and redo when I sand all the rest down, and I got the Anglia van started for my painter mate, he is not so good with wiring! you may notice a few BMW parts under the bonnet.

40's 1700cc cross flow, it moved 12" under power today! no gearbox mount, only 1/2 an exhaust, no coolant yet, but it did start!

There's loads of shimming there to be able to help with the caster angle, but you will find the more caster it has it will self centre nicer and hold it's line at speed, the trade off is heavier steering at slow speeds, Extra camber will be nice if your driving a lot of fast corners, but it really does wear out tyres, i know !

Did you ever manage to sort out a steering rack? Would XJ6 settings work for a mk2 ? I have a vague memory the suspension set up was for Dunlop radials?

Steering is next on the list, XJ6 racks are common on Mk2's but you get terrible bump steer, the toe varies massively as the suspension moves because the pivot point for the rack side rods is way longer than the wishbone pivot points, makes the side rods too short and therefore they move through a tighter arc than the wishbones, I have a plan along the lines of a Flaming River rack...... maybe, starting with a BMW E21 power rack as it is quite narrow,

But I want a PAS rack, The BMW E21 pas rack could be shortened as it has a steel tube centre and alloy end castings but if I shorten it to Mk2 dimensions I would have the lock of a super tanker.............. I could have a short manual rack with an electric column but that would be modification upon modification, and I could use the original steering with an electric column but would be back to 5 turns lock to lock, or I could leave it std. but with wider tyres and castor alterations it would be even harder to park, my shoulders are knackered and my wife would not be happy to drive it.............. ho hum
