Larger than what? There isn't a relay, the output of the sensor is only a TTL signal, so you would need to add a driver and then your choice of relay.
It says "the output signal is: analog signal and level signal." so you can use the analog output to drive the relay I would have thought.
I'm not a sparkie so this is out of my area of expertise but to me it sounds like it would work...
Visually, there's nothing mounted on that board that could supply enough current to drive a relay. The LM393 chip, which is a dual voltage comparitor, has a maximum output of 20 milliAmps.
The analog signal output is a voltage which will rise in line with the current passing along the wire that is threaded through the hole in the Hall sensor. It could be fed into an external analog-to-digital converter ( ADC ) that would allow the wire's current to be digitised and measured or displayed. This signal will not change abruptly, so even if amplified it could not trigger a relay.
The "level" signal will switch from logical 0 to 1 when the current level pre-set by the potentiometer is exceeded, so it can, after amplification, be used to control a relay.

Only issue I see is that say you have the cutter set at 30a then when you light it up that's 30a going through the nozzle consumables till the sensor detects say 5a on the ground wire and breaks the nozzle ground via the 50a relay. I guess there is probably a way to have it that whilst the pilot relay is closed the machine is set to lowest amps by shorting the amps pot which could be done by making the 50a a dpst-nc relay.
You start the torch it lights up and once you have contact with the workpiece and it picks up 5a on the ground it'll open the relay which breaks the pilot ground forcing it all through the workpiece ground and at the same time unshorts the amps pot giving you the set current you want.
I feel that could work

Mine packed up this morning, lots of muttering pos etc etc, then I noticed I had knocked the earth clamp off the steel sheet!
Clamp back on and carried on cutting 7 feet of 5mm steel sheet, love how easy the slag just taps off the back of the steel, so easy to clean/grind up compared to steel cut with the oxy torch.

Lidl have 880 stores I think.
Going on the comments above they send 6 to each store.
That's 5280 of them.
Now, again, going by the comments above (and previous threads on other middle isle items) they all sell out quickly.
If they were paying £75 each for them then that's a £400k (ish) order.
And they would see a £400k profit on that.
To me, £400k does not seem like a lot of money to a big company like lidl.
2020 turnover was £6885 million.
I can't work out what percentage £400k is of that but it does not sound like much of it.
I appreciate they sell loads of other stuff so it might be the maximum they are prepared to spend on one product or risk with one supplier though.
Unless that is the limit the supplier is capable of producing?
Although, the cynical side of me says they limit the numbers on purpose.
Of all the people in this thread who bought one, who actually "needed" one?
Or, who got there at 8pm and drove round multiple stores just because "if they didn't buy one quickly they would all be gone"?
The tone of that email sounds a bit like a strategy as well.
I'm sure they are not really sory that you were unable to get one as the whole point of buying stock is to sell all of it as quickly as possible.
They are on a bit of a winner with the middle isle as, if you can't get a plasma cutter, it won't stop you going back on Monday to buy some cabbages.
If you went to your local welding supplier and missed out on the 6 monthly arrival of mig wire you would soon be going elsewhere..
The other thing they don't say in the email is "we faced unexpected demand for this item but we are working hard to get this item back into stores as soon as possible"
I think they know exactly what they are doing.
Otherwise, why would it be on a weekly offers sheet in the first place?
If they thought they could sell it repeatedly then surely they would have a website up where you could order it for home delivery?

Check the shops regularly find out when the specials deliveries are in th shops ( usually the day before being put out on the shelves ) but I have known them go on the shelves the day the delivery was made and sold out within 3/4 hr of going onthe shelves .

when you opened your unit up was it easy enough to do and were there any security tags etc. I tested mine today and it was fine for the first few cuts on 3mm. Turned it up to try on 6mm and first cut fine. Went to do a second cut and a nose from the unit and it wouldn't cut. I think from the noise it made when I tried the second cut that one of the airline joints inside may have split. If this is what has happened it will be very easy to refit, but I need get inside to do it. I don't want to void any warranty by opening it up, but as I am unlikely to get a replacement, I don't want to take it back if it is as easy to fix as I think it may be.
I won't play with the electrics, but a push in fitting I can deal with.
Just a load of screws, ones on the sides have teeth that bite in so take a bit of force to start undoing them but no security screws.
Thanks Bki26, I will investigate in the near future. I don't really want to take it back as I don't think I will get a replacement.

Is that the one where the guy is explaining the electronics?, if it is then yes I have seen it and its the reason I thought it may be worth looking inside, otherwise I would have just taken it back.

The one thing I will say for Lidl is they honour their guarantee without quibble and will give you an in store refund / exchange but that within the first year.
Of course the chances of an exchange on this are zero and guessing you want a working plasma not a refund!
When I returned my SDS it was just outside the year. I had to email Lidl customer services twice before I got a response. They then put me in touch with Kömpernaß in Germany and the service switched up a gear. They send you an RMA label, you drop it into a FedEx point and back it goes. They inspect and in my case sent a new one, exact same model even though they were no longer being sold in the shops here.
Unfortunately...the replacement drill went t!ts up too. I wrote to Kömpernaß and explained. They sent me an RMA again but it was in the depths of Covid and I never followed up by sending it back. £39.99 down the drain. It's sat languishing in the garage somewhere! I suppose I should write back to them and see if they'll still honour it.
I went and bought a bfo Titan or something from Screwfix to finish the job.
Pretty much instantly, maybe a fraction of a second delay but hardly noticeable
Thanks for that. When I press the trigger the compressor starts but no air at the nozzle. That with what sounded like a compressed air fitting popping makes me want to investigate and hopefully push it back together and carry on!
