Looks like Lidl need a few hundred / thousand emails asking them when they are going to restock with the plasma cutters www.lidl.co.uk. my email is being sent in a few seconds .

Not cut anything yet, but will be soon 8 & 10mm
The earth clamp & cable is seriously weed compared to a good one, no idea if that is important for a plasma but will be using my decent mig one.
The commando plug was wired by someone in a rush to the bierkeller, the cable restraining gland was doing nothing as well...Reterminated and but a cable tie behind the gland to keep tight.
The internal compressor on start sounds suspiciously like parksides battery powered pump - which work ok.

Check the cables guys..

Hypertherm fit a cable about the same size.
It's also permently attached to the machine and I would be surprised if they are skimping on the cost of cable and a dinse socket.
It might just be budget issues but might also question if they think a smaller cable is better for any reason?
At least with the plug on the parkside version it's easy to swap between them and see if it does make any difference?

Yep in fact I read somewhere that heavy return lead could be detrimental in certain setups

S'funny...I went into Lidl a day late today and was almost glad they had none left.

Yet I've just been up the pub and done over £20. What have I to show for it but a warm happy feeling?

Standard pt31 torch it seems so ebay is your friend

I noticed there are different ones on ebay for the torch. I think I read on one of the threads that the consumables are avalable in different lengths (I think the ones for this torch are the longer ones but will need to check), so anyone looking to get some on order, just check your ordering the correct ones!

I emailed them a fortnight ago to ask when they would be in the U.K.- it obviously worked because two weeks later here we are!
They will reply - I mentioned they were getting talked about on here, and the reply I got said they would pass that info on to the buyers.

Think I'd carefully solder the cable ends so there is no wicking of solder up under the insulation or better still slip them into the right sized crushable sleeve then put them in the plug & tighten the holding screws .

One thing I've found over the years is it's not uncommon for bare wire terminations to loosen & come out as the cable is moved about &the layering of the copper settles a bit more . Those copper whiskers on the blue wire are disgusting

I have also asked about deposit pre order and pay the rest when it arrives:- to be sent out by carrier to your address or collect from store on production of a checkable invoice notification .

That's always better ,I'd go with crushable sleeves , but I have to admit that I do solder , because lacking of tools and materials.
It's fine but it's better to use the sleeves (I usually solder them too )

About ground lead I think to remember about someone over here that tried to see if there were advantages in using a thicker section of cable on a plasma cutter.
I think to remember that wasn't the case.
Anyway on smaller units , I wouldn't go bigger than 10 or 16mm² , there's no reason to use bigger cable since the cable in the torch would not be bigger first, and second we are just using between 25 up to 60A on small single phase units .
As already said I believe that Hypertherm 45xp uses a not bigger than 10mm² lead.
About ground clamp?
Everything would work but my personal preference goes for a small 200A cast brass clamp.
I would personally avoid any of those battery charger style crocodile clamps.

Seems modifying these hf start cutters into pilot arc is pretty easy, you just need to short the tip to the ground clamp.

The proper ones have a circuit arrangement where they short till contact is made and the earth lead has a slight current and once it detects it a relay opens breaking the circuit for the pilot so the current goes directly into the workpiece until the connection breaks and current drop which opens the relay and starts the pilot again.

It should have a power resistor connected in series to the ground to limit the current going to the nozzle preventing to destroy consumables and limiting the cutting capabilities

I wonder if you could use one of these set to say 5a to trigger a relay which breaks the nozzle ground once it detects 5a on the work ground.

So relay would be normally closed, when there is no connection between the nozzle and workpiece the current flows between the nozzle and ground. As soon as you start to cut the workpiece and get a connection which reaches 5a the sensor triggers the relay to open which breaks the nozzle to ground and instead forces it to go nozzle to workpiece.

Opened mine up to check everything, nothing major that could be an issue
