One new dust shield / oil slinger fitted to the 300Tdi damper.

One lump of steel to support the inside of the damper pulley.

Two JCB / Perkins big end bearings as my largest (52mm) socket wasn't big enough.

And then a Perkins cylinder liner puller to press down.

race cars hardline fuel lines all complete with factory connectors.

all connectors are quick connects so engine out has just become a whole lot easier.

i intend to use 1 big doitch connector to connect all the engine wiring (currently hardwired so i have to disconnect each individual injector and sensor) but i haven't done that yet so god know when i will get round to that.

i also have a crack in the exhaust manifold which needs dealing with as im losing boost. plus sounds terrible. likelihood is as i want to do a load of other fiddly jobs and i want to repaint the block, the engine will be coming out to do it.

so not fixed. not particularly surprised.

having done some testing the fuel pressure is falling off immediately the ignition is switched off. that's not good.

new sensor works though... bottom right of dash.

its not leaking, so the two options are the non return valve in the high pressure pump, and the fuel pressure regulator. i was able to clamp off the regulators return to tank and the falloff stopped. this shouldn't do that, so it seems the regulator is bypassing, that being true, its probably causing the low fuel pressure under boost also, so ill be needing a new one of those then.

It's always nice to see different construction techniques used around the world, what sort of roofing material is that? almost looks like tin with the screws in the bottom

It is sheet metal, it's pressed into the shape of tile to look like a tiled roof.

Today i fixed my 1998 2hp Mariner outboard, A few weeks ago i fitted a new impeller to it & thought that was the end as i had cleaned the waterways out of the block 2 years ago. Used it last week over the medway on the boat & it got weeded up & over heated. Fortunately i noticed well before it seized up & stopped it.
Took the lower leg off in the boats cockpit & cleaned the pump & it was shoving water like a good un with the battery drill on the propshaft. Put the lower unit back on & it was apparent the blockage was higher up.
So yesterday i take the cylinder head & powerhead off the leg & sure enough it was blocked at one choke point in the passageways. Great blockage of aluminium salts, This on an engine that is flushed with freshwater often.
Anyway all clean & back together now. Off to the club tank shortly to give it a run.

I started a little job on a customers plant a few weeks ago. Handed it on to another team to carry on with last weekend. Came in Monday to find out they'd not done as I'd told them, and piped up the new bits back to front, inlet and outlets mixed up.
Had to take it over again this weekend, basically scrapping what they'd done and starting again, except for the headers which needed to be modified.

Not bad pipe welding there, not mine. One of the apprentices.

Got two new tyres on to a set of steelies for the Pensioners' Car.
I had the fronts balanced about six months ago and everything was fine for a while but the wibbley thump came back. I discovered a bent alloy, so went and bought four steelies for the long term. I'll use the best of the alloys on the rear and the two steelies on the front until the rears wear out (nearly new tyres on them, so not throwing them away).
I took the bent alloy as a warning they must be a bit on the weak side, and I don't trust them any more.

Further to the Today I Acquired relating to the home wheel balancer jobby...
I finally got around to fitting the balanced fronts and took it up the road.
Nary a trace of wibble nor wobble. Only slight weeble is likely caused by the buggad shocker on the left which will not be resisting anything.

This nice bowman os owned by a friend. It was leaking steam, badly from the steam dome.

A quick clean.

The glass was broken, but it was complete.

having gotten fed up with my tyre changer barely gripping wheels and struggling to open even on its own, i got a set of seals for the table rams and replaced them.

much better.

couple of tiny air leaks left but they are in the center tower and will cost more than the machines worth to fix, plus they don't affect the operation, unlike the mahooosive leaks that where there before which frequently had the compressor kicking in even when they weren't being operated....

Finally found time to sort out my sheet metal bench hammer storage on the roll round sheet metal bench I built a while back. Springy broom holders from lidl's centre isle worked perfectly, just drilled the stand and pop riveted them in place. Couple of m6's to screw bolts in to hold the dollys & lump hammer too. Wailing on the leg vice with the lump hammer saw nothing fall out of position.
Its not a huge thing, but its been annoying me them not having a proper permanent home on it.

Did the last few jobs on the recently replaced roof today - I finally have hot water again

* Builders fitted a new roof & window 2 years ago, it leaked every winter so they recently stripped the tiles ( they left me to remove & refit the water heater, they had not installed it so removing it to fix their leaking tiles wasn't their job)
A mate helped me to lift the tank & panel off the roof, and refit it after the builders had replaced the tiles & insulation & fitted a waterproof membrane (original subcontractor hadn't fitted a membrane...)


When the tiles were stripped off the roof I took the opportunity to remove the "one size fits all" (but looks carp) Velux that was brand new 2 years ago.


Mate and I spent a week rejigging the main roof spars and cladding to fit a properly sized window.

Results are pretty good even tho' I say so myself


Moral of the story : if you want a job dome properly do it yourself (it still hurts when I think how much time & money it took to get somebody to do the renovations - and how substandard their work was)
ps. I still hate working at height, even on a low roof like this.

The front of the cutlery drawer at my friend's house was hanging off.
Primarily because the screws that were supplied were barely into the MDF by 6mm. Over years they pulled out. My friend has repeatedly tried gluing it back with "No Nails" which of course failed. The fact that she'd jammed a cutlery tray in, which she coukd not remove, meant that the two top screws were not really providing a mechanical fixing.

An hour later, most of which was spent removing the muck, and it's never going to move again.

Screw in inserts with 6mm screws.

As an aside, a bit of physics helped with removing the cutlery tray.
A) empty trY
B) remove the drawer
C) lay tge drawer top down on tge work surface
D) lift the rear of the draw and hammer it down a few times and inertia solves the problem

Water and soap, and " voila".
