The slates look bloody good to me

Does to me too, though climbing up and down over the slate instead of so good, I assume your using a ladder of some sort.

A bit more roof progress today. I'm knackered!
I realise it's not done "right" - I was trying to use up old stock slates (as new ones are slightly different colour & fractionally longer)..... I was hoping to do complete rows of each.
However I've messed that up by forgetting and doing diagonals up the roof too high - ho hum.
Whatever - its going to be loads better than rotten battens and a hole in it the size of a Volkswagen
I reckon I laid about 130 slates today, and about 180 total so far.

Not been clambering over them (yet!) As I was just about able to reach that lower level run from the scaffolding. (The higher ones were laid in diagonal runs, then I did the undercourse all along the bottom to see how they worked out and cuts by the wonky wall - then sort of filled in the centre).

I want to sort out the cuts & finishing up the leadwork Valley and of course lay more slates - so yes I'll use a ladder to get access to work on the area above what I've done next.

I've never done a roof or laid slates before (beyond helping a builder by Labouring carrying slates etc) so I'm resigned that I'm going to make mistakes.

(OH did help today - only able go pass me slates & tools, but still easier than doing everything solo).

Yes! It did start to spit, but held off. At least I've got membrane & battens on - so if it pours down I'm not too bothered tbh.
(I can have a day off if it rains )

Nearest I've come is bodging odd missing slates using the old trick of a strip of lead fixed to the battens ,and folding the end over to hold up a replacement slate that's been slid in place.
Did loads of them on an old farm site over the years though.
Nice to see such a neat pukka looking job done from scratch

It's not the rain he has to worry about but the wind ripping them all off!

Looks good to me too, are you going to redo the other roof at the end too?

The wind ripped the old roof off (Storm Darragh) - so I hope not!
The other roof lacks membrane as well - so it should be redone / repaired yes..... but don't hold your breath!

At the end in the bottom picture, against the wall, how do you propose to stop the water getting in, as you've not used lead soakers between the slates.

Bought this today, the electronic drum kit is fine but sometimes you just need to beat the bejeesus out of something, so an acoustic kit was called upon.

The seller mentioned the bass drum pedal was faulty. The beater wouldn't stay put in the pedal. So he had wrapped the offending interface between beater and pedal in a mixture of elastoplast, gaffer tape and sellotape.

Two minutes later, tape removed, ascertained that one bolt was missing and an allen grub screw was loose.

Now sorted, worst bit was removing the old adhesive. If it shakes loose I'll drop some thread locker on the threads.

Got two new tyres on to a set of steelies for the Pensioners' Car.
I had the fronts balanced about six months ago and everything was fine for a while but the wibbley thump came back. I discovered a bent alloy, so went and bought four steelies for the long term. I'll use the best of the alloys on the rear and the two steelies on the front until the rears wear out (nearly new tyres on them, so not throwing them away).
I took the bent alloy as a warning they must be a bit on the weak side, and I don't trust them any more.

After much checking, measuring for run-out on an old and not square roof..... I finally took the plunge (after repairing the framework quite a bit & laying membrane, battens etc)..... and did my first bit of roof slating.

I think the time spent fretting & faffing & double-checking was worth it though - starting from bottom right this afternoon - I've got the first 50-ish slates fitted..... & I think its gone OK - it seems to be square, even & flat - & doesn't look like I did the work (a good sign!).

Saw this in person a few times as you know and it's looking bloody good!

So bad the glass was shattered.

so, i robed the spare lamp and got some new mantles.

A bit buttock glencing, new mantles and new glass on the first light up.

But all is good.

race cars hardline fuel lines all complete with factory connectors.

all connectors are quick connects so engine out has just become a whole lot easier.

i intend to use 1 big doitch connector to connect all the engine wiring (currently hardwired so i have to disconnect each individual injector and sensor) but i haven't done that yet so god know when i will get round to that.

i also have a crack in the exhaust manifold which needs dealing with as im losing boost. plus sounds terrible. likelihood is as i want to do a load of other fiddly jobs and i want to repaint the block, the engine will be coming out to do it.
