Today I acquired...........

Went to the street market again.
But didn't have time to make some photos of what I've got, so here we have two pics from Google.
Anyways I've got one of those Stihl 25" rollomatic es light bar in used but still good conditions, for 10 euro

And I've gave up and got another masculine drill for 20 euro

AEG BZ22 Morse taper 2, no mechanical gearbox, just fixed gear and 2 electric speeds selector.
It has what looks like a 15 or 16mm morse taper drill was worth the price by itself.
I've decided to disassemble it for checking it's conditions because of the cracked plastic motor housing but I've discovered it's just a cover layer on the aluminum housing beneath.
Problem is that I cannot remove it because it's part of the brush holders.
Otherwise I would have completely removed it .
Anyways it looks brand new inside so there would be a restoration video about it.
It has some serious and chunky gears in it, almost 30mm thick.

Bearings that claimed to be skf but upon receiving them it was obvious they were fake. A lot of slop in them and very little grease.
I was refunded straight away by the seller no arguments. Would a trader selling genuine stuff do that?

Another bearing trader selling a 'quality budget' bearing that were appallingly bad quality. Got a refund on those too, seller claimed they had sold hundreds of them with no issues. There must be hundreds of mugs out there using these bearings!

Fake bearings are a huge issue - last I heard they are getting into genuine supply chains too.
Really difficult to know what you are buying now.

Never had a duff one from simply bearings. I really rate their EU made premium budget brand.

Didn't @doubleboost mention issues with bearings on one of his videos a couple of year or so ago? Seem to recall it being in relation to a lathe tool he'd made.

For Milwaukee stuff it's pretty easy to see a bad bearing.

Thankfully in order 20 years of buying bearings from ebay the only issues I've had is aftermarket Stihl parts. Otherwise had 100% success buying branded bearings. But fair warning will keep an eye out. Everything, including spark plugs are faked these days

Where do you buy your bearings? Most of the suppliers charge high carriage for NI.
I was using simply bearings but they now have a minimum order price to get cheap carriage.

Depending where in NI you are, I would have thought that there would be a local bearings supplier who would be worth using...

Possibly not so easy if you're very rural though.

I use Bearing King and Steel City Bearings, both of whom will ship to NI without a minimum charge, but use UPS, so it's £15 carriage.

That rules them out right away! I refuse to pay extra shipping to NI on principle as it makes very little to no difference in reality. If I am in an online checkout and it's free shipping to mainland but extra to NI I leave and go somewhere else.

Its a shame that companies like @Viceman don't ship to NI anymore but untimely the same parts are available elsewhere too.

Bearing Fraud is a huge issue.

NSK, Schaffler and SKF all have dedicated resources to help users verify that safety critical bearings are genuine.

There was also a warning issued by the ORR after an investigation discovered that fake bearings for railway wheel sets had found their way into the supply chain even through the train company in question had bought directly from an approved distributor of (I think) SKF...

I can't find the articles now, but apparently it was down to a logistics partner using shared warehousing that worked off of product SKU rather than tracking pallets/boxes individually.

No bearing suppliers but there are some places that will source bearings for you. I can do that myself without having to pay their huge markup!

I'm with @JOEPRO as I too avoid sellers who bolt on a premium for NI delivery.
It doesn't make sense either paying £15 delivery for a £5 bearing. Something that small can be posted for under £4!

There's not all that much price difference between a cheap piece of mediocrity and a Koyo, especially when you take into account the sheer hassle, expense and inconvenience a bearing failure can cause.

They never were.
They always were as good as SKF, for example, and for some decades now have been better, in my experience.
Since 1980, when I first used Koyo, I've never had a Koyo fail, but had a few others in the same application go toes-up - motorcycle wheel bearings.
In my time at the bearing plant, I discovered a few interesting things.
You can specify how good you want your balls to be - a certain French make were the worst, terrible tolerances allowed on them. I was intrigued to find
Koyo were the tightest tolerances of the lot, and they rigorously enforced it, with bods from Koyo offices turning up regularly for inspections.

I have one of those living behind the seats in the truck, it will allow me to re-inflate four 235/85r16 tyres from 15psi to 36-40psi on a single battery, in not entirely unreasonable time, suits my needs well there.

No comparison to the workshop compressor in performance, but it's 99.4% lighter, 99.3% smaller, and 100% more available in the middle of nowhere... So there's gotta be a compromise, no?
