If youve time before the final cut give it a good drenching with thin varnish and let it dry, it will stop the hairyness and should give a nicer cut
Cheers for the offer @Pete. I think it is probably too much trouble due to the wear. I have taken a good look and the wear is over around a quarter to a third of the width? of each tooth. That would be a lot of grinding back and time invested for a Chinese cutter.
I've been far too greedy. I only need one gear which is 3/8" thick so there has been a lot of unnecessary cutting. Material choice was en8 'cos I had some in a convenient diameter but some free cutting leaded stuff would probably do me better.

Tube for vac chamber. Decided to make it in two parts two either be used together or seperately depending on item size. Wouldnt fit in bandsaw vice but it had no problem following a line by hand. 150 and 43mm lengths.
Flipping it now for other side. This had lathe and me covered in powdery dust, galv/zinc seasoning?
I was expecting it to ring, short bit turned ok.

There was a missing knurled screw on one of the dials on my Tom Senior Mill, so I made 2 today (spare for the dial on my rotary table.

I've some short length of pvc drainage tube here circa 300mm long if of any use.
- Grey pvc, 200mm dia, 192mm ID, 4mm wall
- Brown pvc, 200mm dia, 190mm ID, 5mm wall
Did have some red but I think I used most of them for the legs of my bean frame.....

Do you know a good grinding firm?Spigot shaft back from hardening. Finished ground the two bearing journals and the flange. Had warped 0,04mm so was well happy with that

I cut a circle out of 10mm mild steel plate free-hand with the plasma
Marked the 5 hole PCD with compass and scribe and drilled out, plus centre hole
4 jawed clocked to the centre hole, and bored out
transferred to small 3 jaw and re-chucked in the 4 jaw clocked to the centre again, and cleaned up the OD
Bolted to the welding positioner, 7 tenths runout, not bad for a hand scribed and hand drilled PCD.
Placed the chuck on the positioner, clocked true, and the 3 holes transfer punched, drilled and tapped.
Positioner ready for work now, just waiting on a couple of wiring plugs to finish the control box off neatly.

Rotary encoder mount for spindle speed and position on my Bantam lathe. The radiused edges still need finishing on the mill/rotary table or belt sander but otherwise I think its quite a neat solution with no need to modify the lathe in any way. The adjuster screw isn't shown in the photos. It bears against the main bearing cover to take up the slack on the belt. The whole thing slides onto studs used to mount the cover. Just need to add a nut to stop lateral movement.
Bit of a repeat, but another keyway broach bush.
It's 9/16" diameter with a 3/16" wide slot. The slot accepts an "A" type broach and will cut a 1/8" keyway. The bush cuts keyways for Southbend/Boxford lathe gears.
The important thing is to accurately find centre for the slot otherwise the keyway will be wonky.
A Doubleboost style wiggler was used to accurately find the edge of the bar, the centre was then located using the DRO.
I've measured up the remaining width either side of the slot as best as can be done with a set of Aldi calipers and the two sides are within 0.05mm of each other so I'm pretty happy.
I have another bush to make for a 5mm keyway broach soon. Waiting for it to turn up so I can measure for the slot depth before milling. It has been turned already.
These are great little jobs for practising basic machining operations.
Incidentally, tonight I found my missing 20 tooth lathe gear that I made a hash of trying to make. It was hiding behind a larger gear on the lathe gear train.

Never seen a keyway that deep.
It's just because the bore/shaft is relatively small. It's only 9/16" which is very much at the small end of things.
From memory, the broach was roughly nine and half mm deep.
On a larger bore, the slot wouldn't look as extreme.
They can't make the broaches too small and delicate as they would likely snap.
