I need more storge space. Er32 collets are taking a whole draw...

Test, of what was a spade bit, ground a taper. Cut very well but its a bit small so need to do another.

If the angle of the taper is correct could you not just grind a bit off the bottom so that it matches the Dia of bottom of the collet?

Collet fits about half way, bit is 29mm should have been 32mm. It looked big enough I only cared to get the taper right.

Not used the qctp yet but as Im set up for milling, Im going to want another holder and not tried the dovetail cutter before.. Need to make a bit wider.. This one might become an indicator mount.

Today I line bored out a very worn swing post for a little 1.6t excavator and turned up and pressed in some top hat bushes. It's like a new'un now.

Edit, the three holes in the top hats are for cap heads, not really needed but stops them falling in when they get worn in years to come

Wont have much space to number them.

This took me ages, just to make three little 11mm transfer punches for accurately marking the backplate pcd. Half hour looking for one I dropped, only 10 seconds to use them..

Finished drilling to the same depth and a coat of oil. Blue drill motor is now properly dead.

Bore done, small cockup that the chuck is 39.91mm but I remember measuring it exactly 40.00. My bore is 39.93mm. Good sliding fit but not the press fit I wanted. I might need to find a OA torch to braze a lump this big..

Its got a bit of extra length so im going to bore it 12mm deeper with a bit more care. This steel turns very nice, so tried parting, first time it has went well! Atleast all 15mm the full depth of my tool. So Im hacksawing the rest, 68-40mm diameter!

seems like ages since I've done any turning, but yesterday I hit my thumb with a hammer putting a bearing into a brake drum, so thought I'd make a couple of parts to do that for me. using the nut, thrust races and bolt that I used for the bearing extractor for the front stut

so I raided the scrap tub and rough turn both parts that I needed (before parting them)

and then parting into 2 parts. the bottle with the needle tip helps the cutting oil get to the right plac

and the completed parts with a lip turned on them to locate into the bearing outers (with bearing outers)

and in use.....think I should have done this in the first place

the bottom nut has been drilled out, so its just a spacer

Some aluminium shafts for a colleague's home made planar thicknesser.

The inner 10mm of the ends are a light push fit for some bearings with the rest being a clearance to slide the bearing over.

I did mess up one of the ends coming in 0.04mm under size but the size is arbitrary so I can bring the rest down to match or leave it if he's happy. It's unlikely to affect the accuracy of a DIY planer.
