V8 trike build.

The black dog hit like a ton of bricks today, no idea why, I’ve been cheerful the last few weeks, since I swapped green CBD oil for gold, but today all that crashed on me.
But, I dragged myself into the shed and forced myself to do something. I welded up the backrest/header tank mount. The welding was a pain, my fingers won’t feed the filler rod properly and my other hand shakes holding the trigger button down. Other than that, it stuck metal together.

I’m sure I read that my tig can be set so one press turns the power on, then another to stop it, but I can’t remember how to do it. I might have to make a foot switch.





I left a hole in the corner and made a pigs ear of filling it…the chocolate paint docers a multitude of sins though.

I tried that, but when I just pressed the button once the gas flowed for 10 seconds then stopped. Maybe it needs to be actually welding to work ? I shall experiment tomorrow.

Also just noticed my up slope and down slope were set to zero. That manual shows them on 5, is that the base setting for simple steel welding?

Its hf start, so when you press, the tungsten needs to be close enough to the metal to ignite the arc, the current then slopes upto your set welding current…..then you press to stop and it slopes down and stops

I’ll give it a go tomorrow, and also set the slopes to 4-5 to see what happens.

Please excuse me as you probably already know this. As I understand it, the T in 2T or 4T is for 'trigger'. Hence each action of the switch is a trigger. That means pressing it and keeping it pressed is one trigger. Releasing it is a second trigger. Pressing it and keeping it pressed is the thrid trigger. Releasing (at the end) is the fourth trigger. So a quick press-and-release counts as two things/items in the manual diagram.

Not sure if it looks a bit daft stuck up there, but when the silencers and radiator are fitted that ‘bed’ will be pretty much full up, so no place else for it to go. Hopefully, maybe, fuel tank with be swapped for something in spun aluminium eventually.

I’ve decided to start installing stuff as a final build, no more faffing about wondering whether I should do it, in case I’ve made an error and it all has to come apart again.

Nuts were welded to the rearmost silencers so they’re easier (possible) to bolt in place.

I might take the plunge and order a front tyre, and a custom big sized front disc, that’ll be one more issue put to bed.

Decided to go in the shed again, and make a widget. Something to bolt to the front of the motor to make turn it over easier, for setting valves, timing, etc etc. I’ve always faffed around levering on the ring gear, or turning via that small front bolt, but not this time.

It has to clear the bolt that holds the dampener on, and fixes under the 3 bolts that hold the pulley on, so, some head scratching, one dead 24mm socket, bored out to clear, and some tig welding..

Voila:



Gave it a shot of galvanising paint.
