Glue emery cloth strips to both sides of 1/4 inch thick sticks smoothed all over soft wood the width of the cloth , make them a foot or so long and use them in safety like a file .A very deep but tiny bruise on the tip of my middle finger, and a stark reminder that workshops can be dangerous places if you stop thinking for a second.

Clipped the very end of my fingertip on a spinning chuck jaw whilst using a bit of emery to take the burrs off the impact anvil I modified.
There was enough force to both break the nail through a ¼" of flesh, but also throw my hand back at me fast enough that I nearly slapped myself in the face.
Got away pretty lightly really, largely thanks to the advice I received 17 years ago when I first learned to turn:
"If you must put your hand near a spinning chuck or workpiece, only ever near the ¼ turn zone where it will be thrown at you and not pulled in. Normally the bottom, but the top if you're running in reverse."
It's the first time I've had an incident like this and I can't help thinking that I was definitely pushing my luck in retrospect...
Taking 10 seconds to tear off a longer strip of emery from the roll, I could have just kept my hands well out of the firing line.
Most modern chucks I've tried to repair tend to have the top of the cylinder peened over by a burnishing style roller making it impossible to open them up .You can dismantle a keyed chuck quite easily. I only found this out a couple of weeks ago. Download the Jacobs chuck manual from vintage machinery website for instructions.

I went to Screwfix today and got some more stuff for the heat treatment oven build: some DIN rail, some cable glands, a pack of Wago connectors (which I've heard very good things about on here but have yet to try). Also (from Amazon) some DIN rail mounts for said Wago connectors. Still loads more to get and not much time now before the Christmas break, so I'll probably be placing some more orders over the weekend.
That's very kind of you, thank you. Another forum member is very kindly supplying me with quite a lot of control gear, but if there are any gaps I'll let you know. Thanks again. If you need any 24VDC control gear, PSU's, contactors, relays etc. drop me a PM
Are the plastic bags used that they have taken products out of?Thousands of plastic bags... Also two backers for fibre-disks.

I only ordered on Wednesday so 10/10 to Flexipads for speed, but there must have been a better option than sending them in a gigantic box packed out almost entirely with plastic bags filled with more scrunched up plastic bags.
Lovely bit of kit really. So not acquired today, but quasi-installed

The mystery machine finally made it into the workshop...

It could do with a good vacuuming, and a new extractor hose.
At the same time as a smallish heat treatment oven which needs a new thermocouple, and will get fitted with a Fuji Electric programmable PID at the same time.

In a fit of productivity I also managed to dig out the remaining air tools and sort out the welding bench (apart from moving the granite surface plate to it's proper home, because it's too heavy to lift alone).

Including putting the spanners for the grinders on a tether so they can't walk.

Yeah, I was very lucky to get that one, as it's sized for a smaller workshop but still built to go into an industrial environment (which it did for 30 years, as I'm only the second owner).Lovely bit of kit really.
Surface grinders are not common to bed found over here, especially "hobbyist size" ones
