As you may know I have a good collection of original Vise Grips made my Petterson manufacturing.
I am missing a few of the rarer ones so Winchboy has bought me these as an early Christmas present.
Its one I haven't seen before but very handy.
In 2008, the original Vise-Grip manufacturing plant in Dewitt, Nebraska, closed when the parent company moved production to China. As you can imagine everything after 2008 Is ok but just not as good as the originals.

It's a Series V, not a GT, though there is a hardtop with the pile of parts. It will need quite a bit of metalwork, the more I look at it the more I see it needs, with the nearside door pillar area looking quite crusty. I've freed the rear brakes off now, so the dollies aren't needed any more, and amazingly the tyres are holding air. A metal trolley under the front will make that mobile, but of course it had two fixed casters so I'm having to swap those for rotating / turning ones, and there's one bolt (which are flat-head screwdriver heads, annoyingly) that is putting up a fight.

I may, I usually do one somewhere or other. It'll be a while, as I need to finish off the car I'm working on at the moment, or would be if there was any space to get to it. There will be the odd bit done in between, but nothing major.

Now I still have to buy a cordless drill then original Makita batteries and charger and I technically have everything battery powered I need.
I kinda like clones they get the job done, don't look like a toy but at the same time they are budget friendly for occasional use.
I feel little bit guilty but I did only really need the DTW300 clone everything else is just because...
But I'm happy with them all, especially with the impact wrenches they are a game changer for me.
I can't believe I've been waiting so long before to get one.
They would have saved me a lot of time and effort loosening fasteners while working on cars and equipment.

Keep the chuck & key . one day you might want to put a 2 inch hole through timber using a decent wood auger , it's also useful for using a pig tail or paint mixers to stir honey for creaming or paint mixing or flor cement or plaster

My new keyed chuck was like that , a few squirts of WD4o and all sorts of metallic swarf /crud came out when I banged it hard on the jaw end on a block of wood , a couple more sessions & it freed up nicely .

Works much better than I had expected. For anything I want to check (less than 50mm) it's usually within 0.1mm, checked using a set of gauge blocks. Have taken multiple readings over two compressor tanks and they measure 3.0 - 3.1mm

Two long UNC 10-24 TPI bolts arrived a few minutes ago
All I need now ( Are you listening Fizzy ) is for some guy with a very precision lathe to turn off a bit of shank to the exact diameter of the threaded portion and part them off at 6.4 mm either side of the junction of the thread part putting a slight chamfer lead in on the plain end .

Those bullet hinges are a lot smaller than I was picturing; I haven't decided whether to order some bigger ones yet thought. If I don't get round to ordering bigger ones and decide they're too small while the shops are still shut for Christmas, replacements shouldn't be too hard to make (I've got some 20 mm EN3B round bar and loads of brass).

I also got some angle iron and flat bar from Brundles yesterday, but didn't bother with a photo of that.

A very deep but tiny bruise on the tip of my middle finger, and a stark reminder that workshops can be dangerous places if you stop thinking for a second.

Clipped the very end of my fingertip on a spinning chuck jaw whilst using a bit of emery to take the burrs off the impact anvil I modified.

There was enough force to both break the nail through a ¼" of flesh, but also throw my hand back at me fast enough that I nearly slapped myself in the face.

Got away pretty lightly really, largely thanks to the advice I received 17 years ago when I first learned to turn:

"If you must put your hand near a spinning chuck or workpiece, only ever near the ¼ turn zone where it will be thrown at you and not pulled in. Normally the bottom, but the top if you're running in reverse."

It's the first time I've had an incident like this and I can't help thinking that I was definitely pushing my luck in retrospect...

Taking 10 seconds to tear off a longer strip of emery from the roll, I could have just kept my hands well out of the firing line.

You can dismantle a keyed chuck quite easily. I only found this out a couple of weeks ago. Download the Jacobs chuck manual from vintage machinery website for instructions.

I need to make several cuts in a concrete foundation wall, which I thought was a reasonable excuse to pick up this tool. It's supposed to be good for finding rebar, pipe, etc. For example, they say it can find #4 (1/2") rebar six inches deep. I haven't tried it yet (it's raining at the moment), but when I do, I'll post the results.

Wasn't actually today but acquired over the weekend but actually managed to get around to looking at them. These are off a friend in Scotland it all started with the twist drill which started as a joke comment on a Land Rover forum and was duly posted down to me.

Then a month or so later a large parcel appeared which turned out to be the mag drill.

We called in on the way south to collect these counter tops.

Stephen the had a spare transformer so dumped it in the Argocat to run the mag drill.

Asked if I could use the air reel so some spare was duly made in the back of the Range Rover for it. Just need to get some adapters as all my stuff is 1/4" BSP and this is 3/8ths.

My TS480i finds rebar too. Cuts clean through it

I have a few saws that will cut right through the concrete and rebar at the same time, but I have some wiggle room as to where I make the cuts, so if I know where the rebar is, I may be able to keep most (or all) of the rebar intact and avoid having to install any new reinforcement.

Here's an example:
Due to a change in plans, I need to widen the door openings in the foundation for our new garage. I can cut from either side (or both sides) of the door openings to get the required width. I'd like to avoid cutting the vertical rebars nearest to the openings, and If I know exactly where they are, I might not have to drill any new long holes and install new rebar. I also have some basement window modifications to do.
