I went shopping yesterday and found this old hoe head, gave it a clean around potential logo areas and hey presto! It’s Whitehouse Bros of Cannock. This brand pre-dates Cornelius Whitehouse’s hedgehog brand. Very nice for $3, this will be from the turn of the century. I’ll clean it and put it back to use.

Split. It’s pressed steel.

Near Belfast was a Old fashioned Spade/ shovel makers. Been on the Tv a few times, it was a fantastic visit.

They make stuff like that the old fashioned way.

This is some of the later hedgehog stuff - this pattern was offered in the 1920s. This is a forged tool of theirs. I love these things, use them for stripping tree branches for mulching. It’s seen here without the handle.

If you find one where the handle tang is bent up, get it.

The bent ones were used to strip bark for tanning leather.
The curve allowed it to strip the bark from the branch with out taking off to much wood, that would effect the tanning liquor.

Dead easy to do. You could even be preheating the workshop so that it’s toasty for when you are ready to do a bit work.

..... rather a lot of timber.
Helped a mate tear down an old shed on a plot of land he’s bought and brought home loads of the timber for the wood burner I’m fitting.
Spent some time this afternoon cutting it into bite-sized chunks.
This is only about 1/6 of it.

It’s actually a crane, the one that was overloaded, collapsed and blocked the road on Monday. They do now have one of those lift things in its place:
