Acquired yesterday, but unloaded today. Still trying to work out how it works, if it does. I now have to fix it, then decide whether to keep it or the fobcostar I've already fixed!

Same company , I had a 50/50 chance
good, strong machines those. I have a later q&s qdm 22, with a planetary reduction for back gear. Build on basically the same casting as yours

As in 4 speeds on the pulleys and a high/ low range? if so sounds a very useful drill, well worth fixing.

Yep, that's it. Didn't know Q&S were the same company. The range selection seems seized, which doesn't surprise me. They’re nice. The lock shift thing is metal too, seems durable. We shall see...
I bought a 1/4" drive sidewinder ratchet years ago for changing the spark plus on my Subaru Legacy.

Works in a similar way to your ratchet & it was the only easy way to remove the 10mm bolts holding on the coil packs! Even with using it the job took an hour, without it 1/2 a day!
I currently have a Kerry Super 8 bench drill like yours and a floor mounted Q&S QDM 750, which uses an identical back gear system mounted in a slightly different casting.

Once you get that working I would be fairly certain you will keep it & sell the Fobco! It's very solidly built (the column is solid bar, not hollow) & it's so handy to go from pilot drill speed to slow speed without messing around with belts! I've used mine to bore 25mm holes with nice long curls of swarf coming out.

Jumping to the right place from the "There's always one" thread 
, the Abracs discs arrived this morning so had a test. Apart from being a bit tight inside the grinder guard [this'll wear down, I'm sure] it seems to have done a decent job - better than a flap disc I think as there is no 'digging in'/marking you can get with them
And yes, I know the milled slot is slightly off-centre.....
Gives me confidence to replace with cheaper eBay jobs when the needs arises.

I use the Norton Blaze ones and they're excellent. Shame they're 10 quid each and don't last so long.

Dragged out today, but "Managed" to convince my friend to let me look into a few shops. Worth it, my friend now enjoys second hand shops.
So I managed to get my grubby mits on some nice stuff.
It will be a few weeks before I can get some workshop time on them.
But I can wait.
SIF Egg Beater drill, Ex War Department, dated 1942.
It doesn't move, but the chuck is in good condition.
May be restored, or used to repair the other one I have.
Rabone Chesterman Tape, metal tape.
In good condition, will be donated to a MIS.
CK combination pliers, almost new.
Will be used for work.
Service Cabinet key, to replace mine.
Mine some how grew legs, not happy.
Couple of screwdrivers, The ratchet one is marked US Army. The 2 were part of a bundle.
Drill kit, I lost the 2 missing ones when I was trying to be a smug bar steward opening the kit in friends car.
5 Raw Plug Stamped Hammer drills.
The top one is "mushroomed," but the bit is sharp.
The bottom one is dead, broken and mushroomed.
The middle 3 have had little use.
Nice small ball pein hammer, the shaft is the wrong type for the head, that may be kept. Or I may replace.
That lot £10.
