Did you find that during one of your scuba diving trips? It would appear that some of the "welding" was to secure the vice jaws that had somehow lost their screws.

Looking better already.Did you find that during one of your scuba diving trips?![]()
That’s come up wellLooking better already.
Next job, make a new pair of jaws. After removing the old jaws I realised why they weren't bolted on - the holes didn't match. Looks like they were borrowed from a different vice.

Yep, same one. Took about 2 hours, not including lunch break. I'm not getting paid per hour!Is that the same vice?
My main vice is a similarly sized record 23 QR. I have brass covers to slip over the jaws when needed. The vice cleaned up very nicely.
Just a thought: If you have other vices in your shop with steel jaws, you might consider making the new jaws for this vice out of brass or bronze for gripping steel parts without marring them. Make them a little extra thick and also a bit proud of the top of the vice. They're easy to flatten again after they get dinged up with use.

What!?! Ridiculous waste of money. If somone wants to jump a little bit higher fence wont deter them.between the bars of the new £1.2Million pound plus anti climb fence.
The Council were ordered to act by the coroner following the 32nd death from the bridge in 4 years. More here:
More useful in pairs so you'll need to keep an eye out for another one.Yes it's one of those tools you don't need very often at all. Years maybe between uses but when you need it, It'll be great
I was looking at a Vevor one and nearly bought it a couple of weeks back in preparation for lifting my 2 post lift columns onto its bolts eventually but didn't buy it then spotted this USA one cheap so went for it right away after work.
When they built the shopping centre in Enniskillen they built a nice footbridge across the river Erne to access it. Its only maybe 15ft above the water but someone decided to take a dive of it a few years ago. What!?! Ridiculous waste of money. If somone wants to jump a little bit higher fence wont deter them.
The Council's insurers will be happy to reject any claim for negligence concerning the footbridge. When they built the shopping centre in Enniskillen they built a nice footbridge across the river Erne to access it. Its only maybe 15ft above the water but someone decided to take a dive of it a few years ago.
So the council extended the sides up with anti climb fencing with very narrow gaps between the rails, turning a nice scenic bridge crossing into a claustrophobic tunnel.
Once you are off the bridge you can walk into the river wherever you want, there's not even a fence. There's even a pier sticking way out to the middle of the river to moor boats.
What!?! Ridiculous waste of money. If somone wants to jump a little bit higher fence wont deter them.
It's more effort, gives a would-be jumper more time to think, and prevents an impulsive decision. Just like how limiting the number of paracetamol you can buy at once doesn't stop you going to six shops and gathering up a fatal dose, but it's lowered the death rate regardless. What!?! Ridiculous waste of money. If somone wants to jump a little bit higher fence wont deter them.

There's a great documentary that occasionally crops up on BBC4 about the construction of the M62 in the early 1970's.Well I am not going to start a new thread for this:
Today I acquired a couple of photographs taken from Scammonden bridge over the M62, the first is the view towards Leeds so the traffic (Car Park) is in the Westbound lane:-

I parked up and got out to take the pics holding my camera phone between the bars of the new £1.2Million pound plus anti climb fence.

£1m safety fence work at Scammonden Bridge begins
Project to install new barriers is underway after years of claims that nothing could be donewww.examinerlive.co.uk
There is quite a famous video of Fred Dibnah crossing the bridge in his Steam Engine, by sheer chance I happened to be travelling up the M62 on the day at the time and had the opportunity to watch that, so there is another useless bit of trivia.
There's a great documentary that occasionally crops up on BBC4 about the construction of the M62 in the early 1970's.
The bridge at junction 22 that carries the Pennine Way over the carriageway needed 5 miles of scaffolding to construct it, and Scammonden Bridge was apparently the longest "single span non supported" bridge in the world at the time of its construction.
Stott Hall Farm, or "Little House on the Prairie" as it was known on the cb, is the subject of another recurring urban myth which claims that the farmer wouldn't sell his land so they built the carriageways around his farm. The truth is that the land underneath the farm wasn't geologically strong enough so it was safer to leave it and built round it. This myth crops up regularly on faceache, along with the other one about characters in Captain Pugwash called Seaman Stains and Master Bates.
Neither myth is true but it really is incredible how many believe them to be true, in spite of incontrovertible evidence to the contrary.
Just past the farm when you're heading the right way is an abnormal load holding area off of the hard shoulder.I know the place - it has tunnels under the motorway near it.
