Not sure if this is the right place to post if in the wrong place please advise me & give the correct title .

Wed 13 March 2025 I'm due to have my left hand cut open and see if the trigger finger nerve pressure can be eliminated so I can get better use of my left hand . Likely to be 6 weeks before I can reasonably use it . Then a few weeks later I'm likely to be called forward to have a reversed complete left shoulder joint replacement joint done . It's then likely to be a five to six months rehab afterwards , providing I escape getting Covid , septicemia etc in the hospital .

I want to use the nine months or so down time to relearn 3D printing. I've got my own Prusa 3i S and numerous sealed bags of Prusa's own filaments . I had started using Fusion 360 ( as a student freebie ) but several episodes of Covid and long covid knocked it on the head for me .

Happy to pay ( But would rather not pay ) for a programme that is similar , any suggestions from you who are currently 3D parametric drawing, slicing & printing etc.

Now it is done, consider the benefits from a debris-collection point of view of turning everything upside down. Or print some hats for everything.

All the ER holders have a decreasing taper the way they are shown, so anything that falls in will collect. With the Easychange taper, if that is uppermost, it is an increasing taper, so will shed anything that falls onto it.

Hopefully where it is shouldnt be an issue and theres a blow gun on the bridgeport so I always blow everything out before i use it , what I might do is have a flip up lid to cover them when not in use

Agreed upside down would be better but i wanted it universal as there will be a mini version of this on the mill as when you swapping holders in and out it would be handy if they are all together

Reverse engineering is handy!

Conrod and cylinder support ring thing are both no good in this hilti te80 I got cheap at auction however if I want to sell it on I need to repair and replace what's broken and before ordering the parts I need to be certain there is no other issues in the gearbox so quick 20m print for each and now I can test it.

Unfortunately the ring isn't sold anywhere as far as I can tell however since I've now got a digital copy I can get it printed in Stainless and shipped to me for under £15 from jlc3dp which is definitely a fraction of the price it would be if actually available!

In a short break from making pepper mills, I'm making something that required drilling a (self-cut) pen blank. I've done this with normal jaws in the past (and that's worked okay), but Axminster do some rather expensive chuck jaws that dedicated to the job: https://www.axminstertools.com/axminster-woodturning-chucks-pen-jaws-103670

Jaws holding a blank for drilling aren't working very hard, so I thought a 3D-printed version would be ideal (and a heck of a lot cheaper!)

The "exit wound" from the drill was central enough for me:

The printer's currently printing a newer version with slightly shorter jaws (the outer end of the current ones is a bit too bendy to be doing any good) and with more gap between the jaws so they can close up on shorter stock:

Great idea, but I think it'll be fine just making it shorter. There's no reason it needs to stick out over 100 mm from the chuck.

One of those annular springs used in wiper seals might work

I try to use naturally well seasoned woods some of which I got over 12 years ago . Once the wood is seasoned I cut it to get the best blanks I can often scrapping poor grained blanks by the dozen.

I simply put my 4 jaw chuck on the lathe , set it up with a blank using a small tool post fitted roller bearing at right angles to the blank, so only releasing jaws 1 & 2. as all my blanks get a final 18 x 18mm precision trim up the day I do the boring out , as I rough cut them at 20 mm initially storing them in sealed boxes to keep wood worm etc. rot at bay .
Then use a 6 mm centre point to make centre and follow through with a kept for the purpose 5mm long twist drill . When all are done I start the bigger size bore out , using an extra long 7mm precision stepped HHS drill at a slower speed & feed , with lots of clearing& cleaning the drill bit .

I found that the black pointed wood drills are not the best for drilling a precision stress free hole especially when turning the wooden barrel with insert down to 10mm or a tad less when break out often happened

The Anycubic i3 Mega S fdm one my lad started with, a Prusa clone, was cracking for the money and gave great quality prints. Well built though down to a price in some respects we had great fun upgrading it. Structurally really sound and all metal. We simply made it quieter and smoother with upgraded drivers, fans, MOSFET boards to take the strain off the main board etc.

He now has a Bambu X1C but this new pretender to the throne from Anycubic has been described as a "disruptor" to the market:

Another option I thought of overnight (but won't bother with as the shorter jaws work fine - I'll post some photos later) would have been to taper the jaws so the jaw gap is slightly smaller at the outer end.

That would have meant that the natural springiness of the PETG would be used to grip the outer end of the blank, without needing any extra bits like springs or cable ties.
