Today, using a set-up that was stretching the envelope of my milling machine a bit (both rotary table and tailstock were sticking out beyond the end of the t-slots so I had to use some alternative clamping methods):
I made a 400 mm profile that resembles a (bad) artist's impression of a gear
I then turned (pun intended) the end of it into a knob:
I need to make 5 more for the tool chest, but there's enough profiled stock there to make another 17, so I've got a bit of room for error
I could have just knurled it as I usually do, but I thought I'd try something a bit different. If I find I like using the knobs, it'll be very easy to make more for other projects now that I've done the mill work.

30 mm. The bar was originally about 32 mm (1¼"), but I turned it down to 30 mm before starting so that I could get it in an ER40 collet chuck to do the lathery.

It wasn't too bad too be honest. I usually hate cleaning up the milling table because of all the stuff that gets stuck in the t-slots (to the point that I made some covers for the t-slots). However, the brass came off in tiny little bits and the vacuum cleaner made quick work of it.

I can relate to that, only a l200 engine but turning it around was a touch and go feeling ,heart in mouth feet well out the way, thinking on updating it with a decent bearing and something to turn it steadily , small ring gear or similar,on the todo list.

noting to be to proud of, the knob on the Axminster band saw broke a while ago. expected ti to really as was bit naff. so i made anew one. wanted a boaty type helm wheel design but dont have the tooling. tis will do. i soooooo need a center finder to make this easier haha

Had another go at engraving a photo on stainless, I gave it a bit of a polish beforehand this time but there are still deep scratches.
Hard to get a decent pic due to the artificial light, this is the best I could do.
This one took about 1hr 20mins, it is about 180mm x 150mm (7" x 6" approx)

Foam concrete wall. Oil temperature +80. It's hard to ignite.

(with a small amendment to include a hex hole in the outer side in case I want to apply a bit more torque with an Allen-Key). I've still got enough stock left for about 7 more if I need them (and I've already made 4 more than I need).
