What colour LED light are you using ?

I made an adapter for holding Morse taper 4 arbors for machining them.

Bought a capstan sleeve which is MT4 inside and parallel outside.

I chucked it up in my lathe and checked to see if the parting tool would cut it - it did!

Parted off:

Now I can hold my morse taper arbors in the chuck and turn either end.

Be interesting to see how you get on with this, I've a few bits I wouldn't mind trying myself

Eventually got the Polyurethane had messaged them asking when it would arrive but no reply and it is natural colour instead of the black it is supposed to be, won't be buying from them again.
I should really have just sent it back but I wanted to try it out to see how things went and it was quite successful although I think I will modify the mould a bit to make pouring easier.

Anyway here is what came out.

Very flexible and seems strong as can be seen in the pics below I could easily stretch the neck which is 8.5mm dia over the 16mm ball and the 16mm shaft so that I could assemble things. The surface is slightly sticky but whether that will change through time I don't know.

I have ordered some 85 shore from a different place, also with black pigment so I will see what that is like but overall it seems like it will work for me.

I seem to recall that 24 yrs ago my pal was using red LED lighting on simple time clocks . It might be worth a bit of researching for winter egg production .

Made a modified outer mould today.

New one on left.

Did a test and seems to be working fine, just have to see what it is like with the harder polyurethane when I get it.

Fitted and seems fine although it is squashing out a bit under the washer, the harder stuff should be fine.

Can you make a washer that has a rebate for the polyurethane but clamps on the base? Stop it coming undone too.

I could but I will wait and see what the harder stuff is like. This is very soft, 20 Shore, I have ordered 85 Shore so ...

Thats a big jump from 20 to 85? i recon that might be a bit stiff said the actress to the bishop

I am sort of thinking that myself but thought I might as well go up a good bit and then I will be able to gauge what might be best. Seemingly 85 shore A is what tap washers are so with the thin section of the boot it may be ok.

Die holder for capstan unit. Turned from 316 stainless steel. Turns very nicely using carbide inserts on lathe.

Made another mould today, decided to make the flange base 2mm thick instead of the previous 1mm.

Did another test cast and it looks like it will be good.
