Not finished yet, but the starter motor is being changed on the Transit motor home, Ford made it impossible to do without removing a lash of coolant hoses, so now it's draining down.. will it fix my poor hot starting (and sluggish cold) issues? Who knows...

Removed the broken spring on the Midget this morning.
Right next to where one of the straps/clamps round the leaves was. I say was as it left the car in a hurry as I pulled away at a junction.
Broken edges show rust in half the break so must have had a crack in it for a while before snapping entirely.
Not something that would ever be seen during an MOT given it was basically hidden by the clamp.
Now have £150 worth of nuts, bolts, bushes, brackets, etc.. on order ready to fit the pair of springs I've had in the shed for the last 20+ years.

Found changing from the lever arm dampers made a huge difference on my Midget

Check for signs of debris on your old starter, if the DMF is beginning to fail it can cause problems with the starter motor which won’t be covered under the warranty
Fixed the footrests on the c70,they were a death trap in waiting terrible welding,seller gave me a new set,probably Chinese,1.5 mm larger bar,the clamps didn’t wrap around to give adequate clamping plus the rubber location spigots were in different positions. I had to extend the length of the offside peg to clear the bulgier gearbox case.
It's entirely possible without touching any coolant hoses.
It is a bit tight, but there's enough room to get a 1/4" ratchet and socket onto the terminals.
Age is as much a killer as anything.
Problem was most likely some corrosion somewhere, as I used to have to deal with the occasional one with questionable starting. Usually starters would just fail, but you'd get the occasional one which would be starting to seize either due to DMF failure, or after being abused by some idiot who didn't understand how to bleed them after a fuel filter change...

Just have to get nuts tightened, oh and get the dash back in. Been fixing the Speedo too...
Had a lovely R Nine T in for service, new battery (pig of a job, tank off to replace), and made a Sat Nav cable with SuperSeal connector so he can swap his Nav between bikes easily.
Mr Norton has been out on his Dominator and very happy with it, dropped a BSA off, blowing main fuse.
Hopefully it's not a broken digital ignitor box.
First job is to work out if it's still Positive Earth or not and go from there (battery was removed and refitted so I can't trust what's going where).

Sunday, I logged into the integrale owners forum for the first time in a couple of years - spotted someone asking questions about a misfire under load/revs/boost - lots of useful suggestions, but no simple ones.
So I made some - old spark plugs, correct spark plugs (I run a motocross plug with my tuned version - have done for around 30 yrs - I've no doubt there are better plugs now, but I still have spares and they work), water down plug hole recesses or the small bore vacuum/pressure hoses around the engine bay - get a leak and the MAP sensors don't do what it says on the tin.
So coming home yesterday evening in mine . . . mine starts to misfire under load/revs/boost. Bonnet up . . . small bore hose to MAP sensors off . . . second time it's done it in 15/20 yrs. Fixed, running well - smile a mile

So the other Midgetty issue I had was a non functioning trip meter reset.
Has not worked in the 35+ years I've owned the car. Basically the button/knob was far to short to be of any use.
Was particularly unhelpful on our drive it day run where the directions were given in distances from the start point. MrsG had to add 642 to all the distances on the instructions!!
Didn't fancy taking the whole this apart so had to bodge a fix somehow.
After a couple of failed tries this fix (bodge) seems to have worked.
A rivnut with the flange removed epoxied onto the small metal stub of the old knob, leaving a threaded section into which a bolt fits.

I'm a happy bunny. Finally have a freely moving height adjuster for the con-rod boring jig.
As an added bonus, as you'll note from the photo's, the heating method I used has also given it a black finish.
Repeated electrolysis, dousing in oil etc. had failed, so yesterday I heated it then followed it up with a quick dunk in the electrolysis vat today, & that did the trick, & also blacked it.
I couldn't be arsed digging out all my propane gear yesterday, so decided to use the stove instead. Round tobacco tin to enclose it, (save it getting damaged), then packed wood ash around it in the tin, lid back on, then just built the fire up over it & left it in there to do its thing.
In the tin & packed with wood ash.
In the fire.
Drilled 3 small holes in the lid just incase of any steaming/gassing.
I was roasting my knacks off in the flat yesterday, with the stove going in this weather.

Fixed? Year after year it's getting more difficult to keep this clean. Less and less motivation sadly.
