The tractor seems to be be fighting me all the way, after the puncture it seems the heater matrix decided to leak big time, got to strip an awful lot out to get to it!

Yuk!! Looks like a mouse has been living in the heater at some point

Aquired this nice set of castors a while ago, but one brakepedal was missing so modelled and lasercut a new one, now bend on the perforated lines and mounted. It works perfectly!
Satisfactory fix for me.

Had to chop a tree back today as it was banging on the house opposite.
Bit of a hack job using borrowed ladders and a pole saw.
Tree really wants to come down but it's living in a symbiotic relationship with the fence so it stays for now.

air springs time..

the old springs are a bit saggy, even for the amg spec its lower than it should be, the bottom coils are about to snap and im dragging over speed bumps. not good.

a set of new springs for the amg model is 3x the price of the standard springs, which are the same coil gap, same spring rate and same wire diameter. they are straight cut ends too. can you guess what i did?

that done i popped the old springs out.

and new springs and airbags in.

then ran the airlines

base ride height with airbags deflated is now right where it should be according to autodata...

and with the airbags aired up to 90psi...

the end result isn't to raise the ride height, but to level it when loaded, so the max ride height with the bags inflated is irrelevant, but its nice to check anyway

That air bag retrofit kit looks interesting where did you get it please? My daily driver w205 has factory AMG suspension but is very low.

The passenger door started playing up a week or two ago sometimes it would half latch other times not at all and when warmer it was ok.

So stripped the door down and removed the lock.

It turns out that the handle release mechanism was a bit gummed up. This lever here should be in this position at rest but was only slowly returning after the door handle had been pulled.

Easy fix to clean up and regrease.

Today I actually did some welding!! I had forgotten how lovely that sizzle of a nice mig weld can be. The cutter bar of the scythe bar mower snapped in two at a weak point- so it has been joined again- although I have no idea if it’s going to stay fixed. It does get rather abused- cutting well though thick brambles and small trees
Now did I remember to turn the gas off…

fixed my overcrowded scrap pile and got rid of the rest of the metal sorento parts, about half my spare rx8 wheels and a hgv battery. total received £150, £70 of that was the wheels.

to add to that there was the bonnet and doors on the roof bars of the car, and the interior is going tomorrow.

The Mushroom head was removed, then then it was Hardened and tempered.

The Coal hammer.

Head removed, cleaned up. The shaft was cleaned and a new wedge was made.

Thee socket set is a Draper Imperil set, all it needed was a good clean.

Just a good clean and lots of Linseed oil.

Cleaned up, then the rivet was tightened up.
Then they were warmed up and a bramble fed bees wax applied.

These have been well used, but the teeth are in good shape. The bend in the hand was left. Now on my van for use on Fire Hoses.

This East German Entrenching tool is going to be used by a friend who has taken up Metal detecting.

The paint was a rubberised type, so it was burnt off.

Then a clear coat applied to the metal and a clear varnish to the handle.

I also got this for the above friend.

The head was not a tight fit, but I was given a set of circular wedges.

The nsty black paint was removed and the burrs were sanded off.

What is fake hickory?

I was given a draper set same as above but the drive hex is rounded off so it's sort of handy.

Nice set of British Army Post scales.

This is a bit of Lead sheet, it is there to tune the beam, so it sits level when not in use. Disturb this at your own risk.

I had to refill all the weights to bring them up to the correct weight. Lead from old car wheel weights was used.

The modern varnish was sanded off, then French polish was used.

The cales were never polished when in use, as it felt that it could upset their balance.

Small bench sheer. It almost moved.

Heat, oil a hammer and a coffee had it moving.
The issues were a lot of small burrs.

The culpults.

Rattle can primer, after de-rusting and a good going over with a wire brush.

All ready to rebuild., a small human was helping. Hence why we are inside.

threads have been cleaned up with BSF Taps and dies.

The finish on the fixings is not good. But getting replacements locally is now very difficult.

I usually run over the faces of old damaged/grubby nuts & bolt heads with a fine file. Knocks the burrs/damage off, & makes the faces cleaner, whilst still keeping them within acceptable tolerance on size.

Sorted my "new" press out today. Didn't dismantle it to bring it home and it just didn't work. I studied it for a while and thought "that's the wrong way up"! Looking at the pump it was upside down on the frame and my thinking was that it would then allow the air in the free space to occupy the valve mechanism and maybe that could be the issue. The instructions have the pump level and not how it was, the other way up. Sure enough I turned it right way up and it works perfectly. SOD (and he really is) that I bought it from said it never worked properly from new. Well it does now:





Also much easier to top up the oil, which I shouldn't really need to do as the cap is at the top and as you see from the pic I changed out the oil when I had it off the press and filled with new Hydraulic oil. I also took the opportunity to throw away the franken bolts with 12mm heads? and replace them with bog standard 8mm bolts.
