My auxiliary air valve (bypasses the throttle plate to increase idle at cold) has not been closing properly causing a high idle. It is operated by a brass wax filled bulb (that sits in the coolant) and a piston that closes the valve.
It's non serviceable, so first, how to open it.
I drilled a hole in the top.
Held a M6 nut in the body with some long nose pliers.
Then created a puller, with a bolt, nut, washer, and socket.
Cleaned the parts up and reassembled,,,,, and it made no difference. So crimped the brass bulb in the vice by a mm or so and it now closes perfectly in a cup of hot water.
Job done, a new one from Mercedes is £600!

Fitted a new galv rear crossmember to a Landrover 90 for a mate. Went well, I'm happy with the job, and he's reenergised as the old one had a fair bit of rot and was getting him down.

So we took it to bits.
The image below just shows how much dirt was on the wood. The dirt is after a good wash with Meths and wire wool.
The clean part was with a cabinet scraper.
The leather parts are shot. But may recover. I have steeped them in restoration fluid. Time will tell, The cone washer is the worse.
Odd, when removing the paint, the stee;parts looked like they were leeching copper.
Lets rebuild.

The normal/universal way to read out an email is to use "dot" not full stop or period. Hence the term DotCom meaning an internet based company. Also using the NATO phonetic alphabet helps a lot as regional/national accents can really screw up an email or web address.
I spent rather too many years dealing with different defence forces around the globe and this became second nature .

Redesign on the iBus interface. Every time I go for a re-order there are things out of stock. This time I have provided for MOSFets to replace the relays, changed the buffer variant to one in stock this week and changed the LIN transceiver footprint to accept the DIL components that are all I can get.
Next hurdle is the headphone socket which has just gone out of stock. As yet I haven't found anything suitable in their inventory. The really annoying thing is that they had everything in stock last Sunday but I hadn't completed the layout.

This early Mamod SE3 engine came my way. In my haste I did not notice the major issue.
Yes, the whistle is bent, well it was worse. The boss the whistle screws into is broken from the boiler case.
They are inserted from the insdie out, this is done during the manufacturing.
Plus I noticed all the solder joints were cracked as well.
I tried to solder the boss back into place, but the whistle was seized and it tore the insert out every time I tried to unscrew the whistle.
In the end I had to put a new insert a new boss, a new whistle and re do all the joints.
During the first run up. It took itself to bits.
When it was hot I did a botch.
I fitted the spring the right way round, cleaned both threads up and on the next run it stayed intact.
A tidy up, not a full restoration.

Since moving 8 years ago and the business taking all my time I still dont have a decent work bench which meant when the vice was needed it was sat on any flat surface and hope it didnt fall on my toes!
Well today's the day with impending veehicular action taking place it got screw down, nothing like the rest of you guys with exotic workspaces but it'll have to do for now!

Done the same with many boat looms, those connectors are rubbish.
It was a Sym 125 Scooter, was in for theft damage repair but when the other lad removed panels to replace ignition he found that mess!.
