Fixed and broken again within the hour: A rotary sieve. The belt sopped gripping a week or so ago so I ordered a new one, it arrived today. Fitted it and started sieving. Less than an hour later the new belt had snapped. Another new belt has been ordered from a different supplier. I've coated the inside of the old belt with some stixall type jollop, I'll see if that grips enough to drive the thing.

The drill will probably come apart in future, but at least I know this bit can be corrected. Kept me out of mischief for the evening.

Just got one similar myself, really pleased with it although filthy and covered in all the usual detritus. Anyway its been cleaned and partly reassembled but I am in a slight quandary over the starter switch. It still has the original Startet switch, complete with asbestos insulation. Now would it be advisable to replace this with a modern switch, or can I use the original. It’s not going to be used in an industrial setting, nor is it likely to be left in the event of a power failure. Any help, advice or guidance gratefully accepted.

I got a Jun-air 6-25 silent compressor years ago, it was thrown in with a wreck of a Tom Senior M1 mill that I bought as a job lot.
I've used it mainly for blowing swarf and the air nailer and have never touched it other than draining it, but now I want to use it for an airbrush so thought I would give it some TLC.
Bought a service kit that includes the proper synthetic oil, O ring for the head, air filter and non-return valve.
The oil was filthy, you take the top if the head off to empty her.
This non-return valve will be why it didn't keep pressure for long. There's a spring in the square component on the right, this should push a rod with the O ring on the end against a seat.
The o-ring was crisp and the barrel full of carp so it wasn't being pushed against the seat. I'll clean this up for thd next time as it just needs a new o ring.
Sorted, it now keeps a charge of air for a reasonable amount if time.
I've got two 60mm new gauges to come, the old ones kind of work but have no glasses, are covered in crud and paint and are only 40mm so I can hardly see them.

My old man came over and said his washers were not operating but he could hear the motor.
Had a look behind the wheel arch liner.
Pulled the pump off. Slime!
Luckily there was a mesh filter.
Cleaned up and reinstalled.
All buttoned up and working fine now.

Hi Steve,
I think I'm going to use a drill switch like this and stick it on the left-hand side. The motor is only half horsepower, so the switch should be sufficient. There's a new belt coming and I think I'll just use as is for the time being. The chuck doesn't seem to want to come off and I don't want to bend or break anything trying to improve it. I measured the drill hole size using a 5mm drill and it was spot on. Should be fine for what I want it for. I'll tidy up the column a bit more and clean the bolts that set the belt tension/motor position.

Following on from the things that broke thread its time to fix the broken thing! nice big patch chopped out and new inserted, note the welds have been ground back to avoid ridicule 
Bearing in mind weve been shrouded in cloud and cold until today so on the hottest day so far ive been togged up bashing/grinding and weldering!

A week wouldn't be complete without a carb job, GSXR 750 WP this time, full carb rebuild kit/ clean and setup. Customer came back in today to thank me as he's owned it a fair while and it's never run as good which was nice!.
Aprilia Tuono V4 valve service, front head was great, rear was completely out clearance wise, had to order the factory tooling to remove the cams.
Honda CBR1000RA in for ABS fault. What a convoluted system the C-ABS is, 22 page manual on how to bleed it!. At least they didn't mount the front ABS pump unit 10mm behind a raging hot exhaust manifold, never seen anything as stupid.. No wonder they all go wrong.

No1 daughter broke her specs and can't get replacements until next week so she asked me if I could make a temporary fix. I drilled each side of the bridge with a 1.6mm drill and cut a piece of all tig wire to super-glue in as a brace (done it before and it works very well).
