This oil pumb came my way the other week.
I knew the washers were dry, I took it apart in the shop.
One of the washers was replaced, the other was reusable, after a dip in groun nut oil.
New seals were made as well, from a thin sheet of rubber.
A good polish and we now have a usable pump.

I got this Bras Beer keg tap for one reason only.
It was from a local brewery.
Oh dear me, this is not good. I did not say.
So I lashed it in place, then silver soldered it together.
As the metal was a casting it was not a fun fix.
All done, with luck it will go to the local museum.

Burning a hole is a failure... drilling is dependent on where it is..no more than a fork width to the centre line from the tip and no more than a 3rd of the width in diameter.

I took a closer look at my motely collection of DTIs. First up are this similar pair of plunger DTIs, one was ok, the other didn't return to the same spot when you released the plunger.
Just needed a good clean of the main shaft with a bit of white spirit and a cotton bud. Only one had a seal and that wasn't in place. Both have holes in the back to led carp in, presumably where there used to be a mount.
Both cleaned and working nicely now and new seals on order. I'll blank the holes in the back and use the sleeve on the shaft for holding, for now.
Next up, this pair, I didn't hold much hope for these, the mercer has a bezel missing and isn't happy. The SPi has had a blunt trauma incident.
The mercer has some damage to teeth, not sure you can see it in the pic but a couple of teeth on the wheel are rounded off just near the main shaft. It has many other issues so I think this is fubar,
The SPi is very stiff on the shaft, I think it may have been bent, probably during a fall from a bench. Also the bezel doesn't rotate. It doesn't want to come off easily, I'll give that another go before I declare it dead.
Next up, this Verdict lever DTI. It has no glass and it worked intermittently especially if you changed the direction switch. There's a bit of corrosion in places so thought it would just be dirt.
However the bit of metal near the screwdriver tip was stuck in there. I thought it may be part of the spiral drive but that seems intact so must have worked its way in, I guess there are several ways that it could have entered. I cleaned the gunge out of it and its now working ok. I've ordered a new glass, or at least I hope I have, its a push fit crystal and I've ordered one 0.1mm oversize.
At some point I'll go over and give them a proper clean and oil, I mainly wanted to find out which could be used, which needs to go in the someday pile, and which are knackered.

the top one is a Baty, the lower a no-name DTI, both not returning consistently

I have a double-sided version of that Verdict which is a bit sticky but can I hell figure out how it comes apart. Tried using a sucker to pull the glasses out but to no avail.

Mine are in the bakki tin labeled "small screws", unfortunately mixed in with all the other small screws!

Wifes watch strap: the little loops that you tuck the end of the strap under had given up the struggle. Two thin O rings fitted by dint of a fanny stretcher over the buckle and the jobs a good 'un'

I have a couple of dial gauges that are the same. I stripped and flushed them out with solvent until no dirt or oil (apparently) remans. Satisfied with a job well done I put them away for a month and guess what? Yep, sticky action again.
Nowadays if I want to use those ones for clocking in some rough gear or maybe dialling in the taper on my grinder I just shove a quick blast of brake cleaner up the stem and work it a couple of times. They work OK then at least long enough for me to do the job then I put them away again until next time.

My guess was that you pull out one of the glasses, pull off the pointer then remove the scale to find some screws... but I never got that far.
It's stickier than a Humberside girl so not much use as-is.

If it bugs me, I'll take them apart and clean any residue off properly and re-oil the jewels, if them have any. Fortunately I have two that have never stuck (yet!), probably because I always put them away in their box, the others have been hanging around in the workshop in the open.
