Best thing I've found for lifting meat out, especially when it fills the pot, is bear claws. Ebay. No good for pulled pork mind, despite their claims.Get stuff left on shed home workbench without even a mention most times to fix.
This! I had to have a word about, should have been chucked in the bin from manufacturefor lifting meat joints from oven pan.
Really useful please fix it...

Got fed up with the bodgy way wipers on my M300. They had flat plates of steel to hold the rubber on when I got the lathe. I replaced the rubber when I tarted it up but chips and crud keep getting under the tailstock in particular so I though I'd make new ones all round with some felt to keep the ways oiled.
Four stages of machining (they're all slightly different, of course):
Material is aluminium - whatever came out of the scrap bin. Rubber scraper and felt (before soaking in oil):
A 1/4" paper punch makes the holes very nicely. Fitted to the tailstock:

Looking at the manual after I'd finished (I know, RTFM first!) looks like this is closer to the original than the tacky plates that can be seen on top of the carriage - even the hole centres are wrong on them!

My Eurospark 'sinker' EDM has had it's electrolyte tank stuck in the raised position for months - I was putting off fixing it. The tank is raised to surround the workpiece with electrolyte by a hydraulic cylinder, which also pulls it back down. As a safety feature there is a gear engaged with a rack on the body of the machine whose turning is controlled by the spragg unit. Up it free turns, but going down it can hold the weight of a full tank, but the cylinder overcomes it to lower the tank.
Being stuck in the up position meant that access is extremely difficult. The tank sits on an aluminium casting with bronze bushes which slides up and down a very heavy ground pillar.
Having got the clutch assembly at last off the sliding casting it was still stuck - it is lubricated by a nipple positioned between the bushes. Pumping grease in a high pressure eventually gave just a bit of movment, and warming the casting with a gas torch eventually freed it off - much operating up and down and full operation is now restored.

Today I fixed my Parkside petrol washer.
Couple of weeks ago it started getting harder to start and it finally got to the stage where it just wouldn't.
It was very easy to pull over, so first I checked the compression and found next to nothing.
Checked the valve clearance and they were tight, so I adjusted them but no improvement.
Squirt of oil made no improvement either so I pulled the head off and checked the valves.
Exhaust was burnt, inlet was ok.
Engine seems to be a Chinese GX200 Honda copy, so I ordered a valve kit and gaskets off eBay (for about £25 all in) and they arrived a few days ago.
The valves are not exactly right, they in are too small, but the inlet was near enough the existing exhaust, so given what it's for I decided to use it.
Seats looked ok and the inlet came up nice with a quick lap but the exhaust wouldn't play ball.
However I have a valve seat cutting tool the right size, but it turns out, not a suitable guide.
I do have a lathe, so I made a guide to suit.
Exhaust valve seat came up easily after cutting so I rebuilt it.
It now has 70 odd psi (I don't know if that is good or bad) but it started easily so I'm calling it fixed.

Love the way those guys just crack on with it out there.. When I was on the railway there was an Indian gang on the concrete train, they were always getting me to weld up all sorts of cranky "special tools" they'd thought up, nice bunch of lads, tho only a couple of them spoke English..

No piccies but finally bit the bullet and drilled a hole in one of my pallet forks to accept a tow ball.
Only used it once this evening but should have done it ages ago! The little New Holland is usually quite handy for shunting stuff around but then that currently means getting the Argo out of the way. The Land Rovers are sometimes a little too big but despite the JCB being twice the size it's more maneuverable with 4WS.

just a cheapo electrostatic magic diy gun. picked it up about 15 years ago, think they've improved since then? Like with painting, prep is the key, hence the gassing out in the oven on alloy, and buying quality powder. Its a bit of a faff in a small oven but handy for smaller bits and bobs as your progressing the build.
