dont mind them making money it what happens as the world goes round
what im moaning about is forcing upgrade and the new operating system having so meny bit and bobs and so tied down that you cant use it on good laptops and desktop mechines and remove all security updates for theolder software as well said like apple i think they had there hand slaped for making phones useless by update some thing about batterys i remember ?
ive been looking for a differant laptop for 5 years the one i bought years ago(prob 7 years or near that i think) i3 xyz (at that point i was looking for a i5 or i7 and ended up with the i3 as it was cheap person bought it then did not use it just used there phone it was only a few months old)
ive gone out to day a bloke bought a laptop asus rizen 3 2.6 ghz for collage work said hes giving it up and wont need the laptop only 3 months old win 11 4gb ram (this i will try upgrade to 8 or 16 if poss) and he had box recipts etc just had to do a bit of a run to collect it but only 40 mins each way
but this is the only computer i will be doing as it will now have the security updates etc even sons pc wont take win 11 and that only 5 years old and still a good spec

PC world did the Win 7 to win 10 up date several years ago , when Win 11 was being mooted , they said that the next issue of Win 11 would not be down loadable

2nd problem i have is all the downloads and the hassle to get the program
ive got office 2019 full software paid for a license a few years ago download the program put in the code to verify its mine and it works as im swaping laptops i want office on my new one
now to download the software after quite a time searching for the software not the same as windows got to search for it after you find it you got to sign in then input your code then it cheaks it then it down loads
what ever happend to buy software get on a disk or even buy software download the software on an exe file so when i want to use the software ive bought i just click the exe file to load it and put in the code to confirm i own it

update on the pc out the skip its going in the bin ive had enought playing to get it sorted i even spend x amount of time cheaking the drivers and installing the latest drivers not just window ones
its not all a loss son got 16gb ram out of it for his pc i got a hd 2 fans wifi card etc

since you pulled it out of a skip anyway i dont mind anything for free myself its not too bad
but to pull it like you have done instead of dropping its o/s to a usable one which you can still do
the pc is fine to use as a server or as an offline machine if anything its a good gaming machine with a x6 core cpu was dropped into it i have the asus board tuns fine as a backup and game play machine
by offline machine a private machine users pics are better offline and other stuff is better offline at least you cant be held to ransom for it

if im wanting it for business id buy it with business funds and claim it back so then i have a new machine with new software by buying a base unit
not use a second hand skip machine
your software became on line due to pirating that proved it was possible to recieve and install it all online by downloading the expanding packs to the games
the games brought it to the fore front by making it all downloadable and installable from the internet
the one issue you pay 30-50.00 for the download whilst only getting a .50p box and paper
then they brought in you dont own the game you cant sell it, not here in the uk but you can in europe your effectively renting the game and they can shut the server down anytime
the removal of music tracks and film and series lists from online sites have already proved this fact
but the issue stands at I want and i want it now
if your offline and you want the game you cant have it as its an online only system no internet, no download, no game even if you do download and play it offline the game will stop working as it does ring home and it will stop working i already know this as i have a game that does this

How much did it cost you
I am struggling with a HP pavilion.
Probably 10 years old that because I paid 850 for it my brain thinks its still a good laptop.. I think.it came with win 7 home premium.
I upgraded it to Windows 10 online and struggled with it recently.
Essentially I want it as a move able control for CNC and Laser and 3D printers.
But.....Cura needs open GL 2.0 and after 4 days playing around it seems AMD/HP abandoned the drivers and as its got an Intel and ATI auto switchable graphics capability. Not sure if it's on board but as its i5 and has 6 meg of Ram so should be ample to run CNC and laser etc.
I am not sure how much I need to find for a replacement laptop.
I have seen lenovo mentioned on here before but wondered if anyone suggests as better brand.

its not amd or hp its microsoft themselves with windows 10 onwards
your laptop is oldish and therefore is well out of date to the new software it was fine being windows 7, 8 and 8.1 but things do come to an end drivers is one of them
with windows microsoft wants to control the drivers and what you use the software suppliers either code to there needs or do without
i use software where i can use the sound via 2 ports instead of one hdmi and 5.1 surround its same with the graphics drivers the amount of rimes ive come across where windows has tried to over rule the correct drivers for its own and then losing you the other stuff is unreal
post up some model numbers etc. and I'll have a search see if I can fine anything :-)
This is my laptop. The graphics card seems to be AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5470
its definately the 5000 series. But currently on the intel section drivers are installed.

We get that you don't like Windows or Microsoft, but you don't really add anything when someone asks for help on Windows and your response is basically "don't run Windows".
Windows 10 (and, largely, Windows 11) runs fine on older hardware and its support for most hardware is pretty good. Microsoft offering standard drivers is generally a good thing for the industry and the consumer because it adds a layer of "it just works" compared to the horrible olden days when we need to jump all over the internet trying to find software drivers that work.
One thing you may not know is that most major manufacturers positively contribute to the windows driver developer platform - it's not an army of evil Microsofters working in a dungeon but almost certainly is the hardware manufacturers actively working with Microsoft to ensure that standard drivers work (and continue to work for older hardware).
I found shockingly little resolution for this... normally I'm pretty good and can find something, or some work around
with an older laptop you can pretty much guarantee everything has been tried and figured out... found lots of people trying the things I'd dry but non of it working :-(
only glimmer of hope is to run DDU https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
uninstall the ALL gfx drivers and then let windows install them fresh
that sorted it for some people, some had an error pop up but it worked
I suspect (bit of a guess because the people doing it weren't very technical) that windows it installing some default driver and it just happens to work
it's worth a try?

laptop i bought was 150 2nd hand
its worth it but been looking for months and i know what im looking for there aree so meny people selling laptops for stupid money i5 2nd 3 and 4th gen units (and others) with win 11 on it so thats not original as i think they need to be 8th gen or higher and haver some thing in the bois to accept win 11 there are work arounds but its not right
