I heard that Landy Lift was good and enquired about him. Was not attempting to cast aspersions on him, quite the opposite. It was just that the distances involved to shift my mill made him too expensive for me to use.

Well it could be done - providing it is on a good solid custom pallet and strapped/bolted down. A tail lift will cope with 1000kg just about.
Heaviest thing we have shipped through the network was a Kingsland iron worker at 2050kg. Forklifts at collection and delivery though!

A tail lift would cope with that ok.
The biggest problem with a lathe is weight distribution - it is all at the headstock end and they tend to be top heavy.
A custom pallet with the slots at the balance point would do the trick. Bolt the lathe down and it should be fine.
Too many people use too narrow a pallet. You can go 120 wide so with a lathe like that the dims would be say 160x120 - 2 pallet spaces.
IF it was palletised correctly it should be fairly safe to move through a network.m

Another possibility - if your trailer will carry it - is to hire a lifting gantry.

Do you know what height you need to get it to clear it onto your trailer? You can easily strip 100kg or more off it in 20mins which is gonna help and make it less top heavy for towing.

Getting it to the trailer through the school should be ok even using the rolling on bar technuique (I moved my lathe 3M last night in minutes on bars by myself) but it did leave marks on the floor. Has it got to go through corridors or can it go straight outside? Is floor damage anything to consider? You can rent 10t machine scates at HSS for £50.

I think nylon machine skates is going to be the way to do it.

There is also a 2t floor crane you can rent that should lift it up high enough to get it on my trailer.

A 2t crane will lift it. That's how I move all mine. If you were closer you could of borrowed mine.

Make two trolleies with 4 nylon wheels on each. Lift one end with engine hoist, put wheels under, ratcher strap it on. Lift other end, wheels under ratchet strap on. Wheel it out to your trailer. Plant trailer with winch, cover the ramp in ply to smooth it out, winch it up.
If you havent a winch on the plant trailer use a chain block, or pull lift.

Its only difficult if you want it to be

If using skates be very careful that you can get a good surface under the lathe to rest on the skates. If a corner falls off a skate the lathe will fall over very easily, I would much rather go with pallet trucks myself but again care is needed, especially when going round corners.

We had amtico installed in the entrance hall. it scuffs easily but mostly rubs out need to be careful though.

As for the trailer we once got our selves in a pickle needing to man handle a bucket onto my trailer. Took the wheels off the trailer in the end to get it as low as Possible which made it a lot easier then used two trolley jacks and the jockey to raise it back up. 30mins if messing but it worked.

If you move it by palletised transport ensure that the haulage firm send two people to unload it. My mill ended up on its side in the back of the wagon because of this lack of foresight.
