Moving a Harrison 140

You can still take a fair bit off the top. Tailstock, gap, chuck, topside, changewheels and, with not *that* much work, the saddle. It all adds up.

I probably will take all that stuff off. Least it is less top heavy then.

If it's been lifted by the chuck take a dti with you - it may be little more than scrap!

Just out of interest. Why must you not separate a Harrison. I understand they are set up from factory but if it's bolted down on vee ways then it locates it self if taken apart. Just curious

I think that 140 at Rotary Machine Tools is an old page that they've not deleted. I enquired about it on behalf of a friend and got no reply.

Apparently the Landy lift guy is good for moving machines. He was no good to me as he wanted too much to come to the Highlands, but I've heard plenty of good reports about him from others.

Alternatively I could get my wife to come give you a hand. Without her, I would not have got my 600kg Harrison Mill across my gravel drive and into my workshop.

2 of 1 inch bars about 32 inches long slid through the lifting holes in the cabinet and an engine crane with slings or chains to lift. If its on a totally flat run to the trailer, just jack it up and sit it on a pallet truck on top of some rubber sheet, to move it.

It refers to not removing the bed from the base, not the headstock from the ways.

Between the bed and base is a special shim material blended from unicorn tears and powdered hen's teeth.

You wouldn't want to disturb it.

I am building an offroad expedition trailer that will also move machinery. It is pretty high up so I plan to build 2 machinery skates on rollers for moving lathes. Then I can winch it up the ramp.
We can move lathes up to 2 tons through our pallet network - but forklifts essential at collection and delivery. It would also need a custom built pallet.

Stive from Landy Lift is very good moved a fair bit of machinery for me , not cheap but insured and knows the game
