Is there any suitable compound or filler for the deep rust pits on a mating surface like this? Engine block so also high temp application.
I understand chemical metal as we know it know from local parts store is just a filler and no good.
I am wondering if it could be filled then given another very light deck skim to clean up excess.

Hang on - don't give up so easily! Maybe they made a mistake and would be happy to sort it out - have you asked them yet?
Negative feedback is a vicious thing against small businesses - so really it's only fair to give them a chance to sort the issue.

Give them a chance to sort it out, then if they don't, your feedback might in addition mention that.

But you have to ask
If a block goes in for a rebore. Then it gets a rebore. Why would they mess with the top at all if not asked to. I mite be wrong there but I am sure they would not do work not asked to do.
And I paid for rebore and skim.
I'll.call them as said and see. This is the reason. I have never gave work out and do stuff myself. Never ask for help as there is 99% a catch somewhere.

Bit of a comms problem. A long time ago I wanted a Mini engine just right. So had the block skimmed, then measured the piston to deck height and had them machined to match. But, I talked it through and got what I wanted.
Likely your B20 marine donk would be OK with what we are looking at, but I would not go ahead without another skim. They should have, either, done it anyway or talked to you after the first go.

I'd ring them up, being polite about it, they may have forgotten to skim it, job sheet may have been incorrectly filled out etc. At least let them have the opportunity to set things straight. It may be that they checked the deck height from the centre of the crank (as that looks like it has crank support and barrels in one casting) and that was the max they could take.
