I use a straight edge and feeler guages for checking heads.
For single cylinders a mirror and grinding paste flats them off well.
I can't recall having more than 2 four cylinder heads resurfaced in all they years of repairing motorcycles.
I wouldn't personally use that head with the crack in it.
