BTW the blue sash clamps are all from toostation. Dont really rate them, holes poorly spaced and nearly always need to pack them out
The steel one in middle is from Screwfix, got it today. Looks flimsy but actually much better
Tempted to make them but even then it means buying a sacrificial g clamp of decent quality for each one. Looked into coarse threaded bar and nuts, g clamps cheaper., about £4
Like your suggestion Parm but i think i more confidence in the pressure obtained from g clamps than strapping like ratchet straps.
With steel underneath wood being laminated and protective wooden offcuts across the top, you can really muller the clamps
