With granite comparatively little skill can get it lapped really close on a small one
I could regrind a knarly granite on in for final lapping , the owner did do that occasionally and it came with a 500mm diameter diamond wheel for it but I don’t want the mess

Old owner turned up today, a real master who apprenticed at Herbert’s and learned his grinding on a waldrich coburg
When I was talking about it I had to have a chuckle. He said ‘ I **Language**ing hated that boehringer, you should have bought the other one!’ And I should try and get a 6m waldrich!

A real surprise that really raised my spirits was uncle @Pete. turning up.
He had the machine hold done bolts cut and out whilst I was still messing with the feed box. Very heartwarming gesture as I was feeling quite panicked
Ps Pete is in the hiviz not the the older gentleman

Another master from herberts. You said he was from Coventry so all makes sense now.

Herbert’s did proper apprenticeship
His grandson said even the Swiss would fly him over for scraping and even turcite had to be curled
He also considered biax finish totally unacceptable. So hand scraping only
The old timer did say the boehringer was good for 2micron but the control was dangerous hence the Germans selling it to him
Another thing was the ground in Lincolnshire is much better than Coventry clay for holding level

He only gave in a retired after breaking his hip. Someone did make a snide comment on the place closing but working until 79 is long enough I reckon

Well you know I was in the area...

I saw from the pics that those hold-down bolts were going to be trouble but I had the kit to do it. I released the levelling feet enough to get a bar underneath and that gave me just enough gap to get a recip blade underneath.

It’s funny as I’m the last few years I tend to ‘socialise’ with forumers and not old friends who were more drinking and going out chasing skirt buddies and this is the only forum this has happened on which shows the community of this forum and what a dull old fart I’m becoming!
