Nope - I remember years ago waiting for the twice weekly’trade it’ to come out so I could acquire more rubbish sorry- essentialsBeginning to wonder if this isn't some sort of mental illness (one that I certainly suffer from) brought on by the advent of easy to use world wide network access, social media and distance selling. We are so effortlessly connected and able to buy/sell/share, more so than at any other time in human history....

I try to run to the rule if I haven't used it in four years out it goes unless it is high value over say £500 to currently buy a new one , preferably for a few pounds with no gripe from me .. no interest ........ hit it with disc cutter separate to different metals , scrap the plastic to the local amenity ,once I have a 45 gallon barrel full .Yeah, he'll send you the money by money transfer, overpay, then ask you for the difference refunded.... and you'll never get the original money. Or some variant.
It is overwhelming dealing with clutter. I get overwhelmed when I look in the garage or our back room where we store stuff. I'm determined to make progress when oldest moves out next month though. I honestly don't want to spend the last years of my life surrounded by so much stuff.
Start with the easy stuff: books you've read, things that are broken, things that you really don't love. If you just bin/rehome/sell 6 things a week the progress will build up.
I will deline that kind offer thankyou...can i interest you in 4 belle cement mixers or about 16 shovelsHaving read all of the above- quite a bit of it resonates with me.
I have stored some stuff for 30 years- but can I find the pesky thing exactly when I need it? Guaranteed it will be needed two days or a week after it gets disposed of…
But I really like the ‘get rid of 6 things a week’ - that sounds manageable- and I do know much pit won’t be missed after the initial pain, and I will very much enjoy the extra space in the workshop.
Thanks @roofman - it seems you have protected many of us from ourselves- perhaps we all ought to send you some ’stuff’ as a reward

I was looking at that yesterday evening Thought yes it would be useful occasionally, but I have managed so far.Interesting update. I think I am being "Goldfished"

They say admitting it is the first step so here goes...
But first, as far as hoarding goes you lot are AMATEURS!
My garage was already a tip when I had to further turn it upside down to make access for fitting the new cu and EV cabling. I had to take a little angle iron chipboard shelf unit down that I'd made to drill through the slab etc. Over the weekend I managed to refit the uprights and just ONE shelf, luckily
No cherry picking. Where do you draw the line? Whole lot, in the wheely bin.Other than the extension bar perhaps

Everywhere I look there are linbins, cardboard boxes, totes and buckets full of stuff:
Here is exactly the same, more or less. My bench is full of stuff just like that. Odd boxes full of useful things ......or they may be one day. If you pick up one of those containers of assorted tat and bin it, you will never miss it. I find doing it though, is another thing altogether. They say admitting it is the first step so here goes...

I'm pretty much always on a knife edge at the moment and the littlest thing sends me spiralling. Tonight's main one was I couldn't find my M20 electrical tap. I'd gone in just to link this two 2 gang boxes with a coupler.

I think I can, my grandparents kept left over egg shells in a drawer for slug repellent. My grandfather used to save used nails & straighten them, that takes a bit of beating for saving rubbish!
My dad was the same, but it was more out of neccesity as he never had well paid jobs so if some nails could be recycled for a job around the house it saved buying new ones.My grandfather used to save used nails & straighten them, that takes a bit of beating for saving rubbish!
