I try to run to the rule if I haven't used it in four years out it goes unless it is high value over say £500 to currently buy a new one , preferably for a few pounds with no gripe from me .. no interest ........ hit it with disc cutter separate to different metals , scrap the plastic to the local amenity ,once I have a 45 gallon barrel full .Yeah, he'll send you the money by money transfer, overpay, then ask you for the difference refunded.... and you'll never get the original money. Or some variant.
It is overwhelming dealing with clutter. I get overwhelmed when I look in the garage or our back room where we store stuff. I'm determined to make progress when oldest moves out next month though. I honestly don't want to spend the last years of my life surrounded by so much stuff.
Start with the easy stuff: books you've read, things that are broken, things that you really don't love. If you just bin/rehome/sell 6 things a week the progress will build up.
