Aye, an impeller will just flip the opposite way and with little effort.hugely unlikely.

on a Volvo penta it's usually attached to the engine block and runs off the cam shaft, if the impellors dies, it shreds the rubber arm things, then in its dying pumping throws sends them down pipes to block the heat exchanger. The Jabsco on SS Aspen jambed up ,ripped off its tether and all the pipes

You probably had one of the small branches you chop down stuck in itThe Jabsco on SS Aspen jambed up ,ripped off its tether and all the pipes

On this engine the water pump is belt driven, well it is 46 years old.on a Volvo penta it's usually attached to the engine block and runs off the cam shaft, if the impellors dies, it shreds the rubber arm things, then in its dying pumping throws sends them down pipes to block the heat exchanger.
a shredded impellor breakdown must be followed by where are the bits now, or it'll just overheat again.
some times the raw water pumps are aside from the engine on fan belts, rare nowadays in my experience.
i much prefer this simple electrics than modern, lot less to go wrong.ye tracing a loom fault there is right in front of your eyes eh
Or blown out the exhaust hopefully. On this engine the water pump is belt driven, well it is 46 years old.
It has no heat exchanger so all impeller bits will just get stuck in the engine![]()
Never worked on the Pentas but the Bravo ones are a real PITA, often get the inner bearing collapsing and seize up and they are a real pain to remove.Okeydoke, had a quick faff tonight, sods law i dont have the correct size Hex to remove the selector cover, going to get a new set tomorrow.
Now its not the engine at all i am 100% on that.
I got SWMBO to rock the remote lever back and forth a few time while i turned the engine by hand in both direction. now intermitently it moved in the correct direction but i had to stop due to me being a frickin cripple.
It hits solid still with no noise of crunch etc. i reckon the problem is between the UJ in the drive and gear box.
The propellor goes into gear though ( locks up ) when selector is put in forward or reverse and neautral.
so my thought on kit being between the UJ and gear box.
they look like Volvo car based engines, i doubt they would bother to make one run the "other" direction, can you disconect the shaft from the engine to see if the engine is the prob or further down the line ?...ps, i know zip about boats other than they float![]()
How right he was too.I believe it was Howard Hughes who said "If it flies, floats or f***s, rent it"![]()
Yep anti clockwise as to the correct clockwise. And it still only rotates in one direction?
