DERV contains several % of FAME etc, it doesn't store well.

I got in before the prices went mental, I didn't think it would be this bad!
BUT if we all get out of this then I'm happy to pay some more to **Language** Putin up.
It doesnt last long enough in our tank to worry about storage. The POs installed a 1200 litre tank to fuel 3 boilers...

Dont know, its not that bad. I once tried it in a 1999 renualt, put 50% veg in an empty tank, it ran ok. Within a few days the gearbox bearing went while reversing, common problem with them, I never got a chance to know if its any good and that was my last car before I went over to bikes.

Not scientific but I have run my 200tdi Landy on SVO from tesco for years. Probably done in excess of 100k miles on various veg oils. The engine is excellent. Runs really well on diesel, same performance on sunflower and seems marginally better on rapeseed oil. Economy is the same on all of them measuring miles from a brimmed full tank. Will sit 80 on any of the above (have an overdrive fitted) (- on French motorways of course...). The only difference is that in colder weather its a bit lumpy till it warms up. FIP was overhauled a few years back - no reports of gum in the pump and I had the head off a couple of years ago as the HG went and the bores and internals were very good - still see the honing marks.
If you do the math the veg oil isnt as calorific I think but I didnt notice a difference other than an actual improvement on rapeseed.

I've finally managed to get Flogas on the telephone and request a top up for my bulk LPG tank. I dread to think how much its going to cost compared to last April, when I had the initial tank installation fitted and filled.

I did joke about it with my mate , to which he said it would be a simple case of possibly fitting a new jet and shushing the fuel pressure , but as far as it goes the calorific value / burn rate is nion the same . Nothing dramatic, as my oil burner is an old Wallstar , so no fancy parts to be upset by it ….
And there was me 2 years ago “considering” filling my van with heating oil . The irony of it now .
My oil boilers must be 25 years old so nothing fancy there either. Hmmmm.
Shouldn’t be a problem , just need a decent engineer / plumber , it’s no different than settings and adjustment when servicing , new jets .
You might even find add it to an existing tank of fuel won’t cause you any grief .
Then just to find a friendly farmer as if you try and buy red you’ll pay tax unless you have an exception I think .. lucky there are a few here but carting 500 litres of red in cans will be fun .
Heating oil is generally 28 second
Red / derv is 36 seconds . Correct me if wrong , so not a lot in it to adjust if you went over completely .

If you like inginuity and veg oil watch this, I first saw it a few years ago and it has always stuck with me.

Tbh, many here "can" but don't.
We all fall into the trap of being spoilt by cheap energy. Let's face it by and large we can still all afford energy, pay our bills and eat. Thinking of what's going on elsewhere...
Take me, guilty as charged, I built a solar water heater, 4' square to my own design. Received high praise on one of the US solar forums. It was a bit of a laugh using all scrap materials. Achieved some incredible temperature. Had a few hot car washes and al fresco showers.
Meant to scale it up, didn't etc. Even had the chance recently of decent scrap material to make another but was too lazy to grab it.
If I had I'd have used a lot less oil!
