Out of interest how long does a tonne last roughly?

Mine comes in 25 kg bags, one of those will last 4-5 days, they produce a lot of heat and reduce wood consumption massively, I’ll throw in around a dozen lumps of smokeless fuel then a log on top, won’t need topped up again for a couple of hours.

It is an option - the problem is: It is an option you won't/can't afford to take.

But: In the long run - taking it earlier en mass - maybe easier and cheaper in the long run (the long game!)

Two kms of hill out of mine, basically up a ridge, along a flat, then down again.

I cycle reguarly, once or twice a year, along canal paths.

I could, absolutely, be wrong but, if you can hold off, I reckon oil prices will come down again. (Not really an option in cars but heating oil or bulk diesel).

There are X amount of oil wells in the world and X amount of consumers/demand. The West getting funny about Russian oil will be forcing them to lower prices to whomever will still buy it - China and others. That'll free up oil from the middle East. It'll come a bit further and I guess be a bit more expensive because of that but global supply/demand won't have changed. Oil is really transportable. Less so with gas.

My thoughts too. It's all happened in two short weeks, so panic may be premature. That having been said, according to the news the panic buyers are once again running the fuel pumps dry.

I feel that Blobber is on to something here with the idea of creating a wood.

Filling it with fast growing pine trees could have an additional benefit beyond growing firewood.

Whenever I visit a DIY shop for timber, it is always pine .There is a massive demand for pine timber. Whether it is a few pieces of 4x2, new joists for the flooring, or timber roof trusses and other aspects used in the construction industries.

Imagine the area full of mature trees, and an outbuilding closeby with a sawmill inside. If you just consider the four sides that are cut from each tree that results in a large oblong shaped log worth £££s. Even the four side off-cutts from each tree would provide lots of 'wood fuel'. Not just for himself, but a decent amount sold on at a profit, plus all the thick branches chopped in to logs.

If the trees are cut down near to the ground (coppicing) they will regrow again. What's not to like?

Obviously from a bare field its going to take a while, but once you can start harversting in rotation?

I took down a couple of trees around 30 ft tall in order to make space for my workshop, the wood I got from them lasted an entire winter season. Here’s a pic of one of the stumps to give you an idea of the diameter.

i know a guy who planted willow. it was initial to be mixed when they burnt coal way back i think. it was down at locerbie

he now harvests it in rotation and burns it

Someone did mention 3 acres don't know if that's right, we've 3 different types of willow and they all grow quickly but some burn nicer than others, we've got a lot of big blackthorn which burn great and dry quickly

Seems like they haven’t got any lorries in my area , and I am just a few postcodes away from you …. But how the f can it be £2.40 inc a litre , it’s now time to start filling up with road derv , save 50p a litre .

Is there any issue with using diesel if its cheaper? Or red? Its ludicrous that kero is more than white!
