it is possible for a fault or failed start to cause exhaust to be emitted from the combustion intake. it is unwise to pipe it anywhere but outside with the exhaust.

I've had a few beers, I'll return to this tomorrow with a clear head, even a false start, which has shown up as an error, failed combustion, surely is can ventilated and exhausted.

Imagining, the pcb fails, false start, combustion, but no fan, yes I can imagine combusted gas, smoke, we'll say, if the fan failed, could come out the inlet, but it would take the flame detector to ...

Tomorrow, I'm not explaining myself properly...

I'll think about this, I'm an experienced fitter / installer / repairer, but not a guru...

That seems to be an urban myth.

Surely they would just use a CE mark (regardless of wether it's been through the CE process) if they wanted, without making up a "China Export" mark.

Curious some of these £87 5kw heaters are marked CE, some not, they all look the same.

well its obviously enough of a issue for Eberspaecher themselves to outlaw combustion air being taken from the cabin.

Evening folks, the air inlet for the heating air, there are two options...

A) from the outside, which reduces humidity in the boat.

B) from the inside, which doesn't reduce humidity, but greatly increases the heating ability as your recycling air, and not risking pulling in the exhaust gas, if the exhaust port, is too close to the air inlet, 20 cms

Can I ask if it's because it's a semi sealed living space that you don't draw the combustion air from the heated space?

I guess there is a risk of carbon monoxide escaping back into the heated space should there be a sudden power failure...

My unit draws combustion air from the inside space but my workshop has plenty of gaps and cracks to let fresh air in and I only sleep there when she kick me out

1. SAFETY: There is a risk of CO leaking back into the living space under a fault condition.
2. COMFORT: If you draw air from inside the cabin into the combustion chamber, it will then be vented outside via the exhaust port. This air has to be replaced somehow - it will be replaced by cold air being drawn in from outside: cold draughts through every gap.
3. EFFICIENCY: If you draw (heated) air from the living space into the combustion chamber, then you are venting heated air to outside. Draughts aside, you must then heat more air from outside temperature. Also, warm air is less dense than cold air. The denser the air entering the combustion chamber, the more fuel can be burnt.

It's a "chinese export" mark, not "certificat europe" mark.
Some of the importers save themselves the expense of a sticker.

Yep, combustion air is being sucked in from a separate well insulated bilge (from the living compartment), with ventilation, back to my point, oxygen issue.

I think it's more CO leakage into the cabin. I doubt you'd be able to seal a boat to the point that sufficient fresh air couldn't get in around door frames etc.

I'll quote the manual tomorrow, I think we're splitting hairs.

Irrespective of a combustion failure, causing shutdown, the amount of failed combustion gases through the air intake would be 'small', a better word escapes me, maybe miniscule, seeing as the combustion air intake is in a different bilge well ventilated from the living space, can't see the issue..

And any failure would event in the cooling cycle kicking in, it would blow it out.

Worse thing you could do is to cut the supply voltage, resulting in the unit overheating...

I guess.

Hence trip switches not allowed, directly plumber to batteries.

A co2 leakage into the cabin could only be caused by the internal gasket failure between the combustion chamber leaking into the blown heating system.

I rebuilt alot of Webastos...

I really should pull one apart, video it, and explain exactly how they function .

However this instalment, is a question of satisfying the badly explained installation instructions to warrant the warranty.

So I've been in regular contact with the supplier, to iron out the ripples and incomprehensions, in their installation manual, which is simply, confusing.

I'll scan the manual, tomorrow, but I might have to move this to the private forum...

I'm really going to bed now, I've got to be up in six hours...

With the heater in a workshop situation, is anyone filtering the inlet circulating inlet air?
I have just managed to fit a heater at the workshop, combustion air and exhaust are piped through the wall to outside fresh air.
But despite extraction, the workshop does get dusty it's almost impossible to capture all the dust when working with wood and sheet materials.
Obviously, you cant restrict the airflow or the casing to the heat exchanger will overheat. Might just be a case of blowing the thing out with the airline every now and then.
Don't know how much dust might build up at the moment, but was thinking of something like this, a universal car air intake filter.

Personally I would be wary of restricted airflow over the exchanger as the electronics are prone to overheating.

If you have a van type unit then you can just unscrew the plastic 'intake' grill and the top comes right off and that's at least a 1/3 of the casing. Then it's just a quick go over with the shopvac as often as you think it's needed for your environment... It's a 2 min job if the unit is accessable

Used to be a common fault on ambulances , blanket fluff on the heat exchanger causing overheat, only other more common fault was the crews putting a bag down in front of the inlet and blocking the airflow
