Motor rotation would need to be reversed.

Now there is a niche market.

I just googled it and found that in america they have saws like ours (which they call sidewinders) and saws with the motor facing forwards powered through a worm gearbox (they call them worm drives) but with these, the blade is on the other side and is much easier to see the cut line apparently but in my (very short) searches, they don't exist in the UK.
Hopefully someone will be along in a minute to prove me wrong because I'd love to try one.

I have used a standard hand-held circular saw for thirty years without worrying about seeing the line to cut.

I use a fence. Easy peasy. Same goes for the jigsaw, if you need a straight cut.

Hmmm reading this post reminded me how much I hate jigsaws.

I hate the way the blade bends as you cut through thicker materials. Cutting a hole in a kitchen worktop to take a sink.
No matter how accurately you follow your cut lines, the blade will bend close to the bottom end, and wander all over the place. The top face is fine but the bottom is all over the place. Drives me mad!

Get a decent jigsaw, decent blades and cut at the right speed...... easy

OK the tool I hate using is the hand held circular saw, never cuts straight , hard to support the work and get a cut... I bought one 10 years ago when I moved here I think I 've used it twice ... I 've got a table saw now, much nicer ....jeff....

Have you never heard of a straight edge clamp or had the desire to make one?

Speaking of jigsaws, on Bosch saws with the lever to adjust the angle of the air to clear the cut line, is mine broken or does that lever just not work? Or have I been mistaken all these years and it does something else?

Hmmm reading this post reminded me how much I hate jigsaws.

Cut the piece out just before the line,once cut out route it straight to the line,I know you have a router because its needed when fitting kitchen worktops.

ive only ever wrapped me knuckles on a bench drill when the drill dug in and spun the vice. a guard wouldnt have stopped that so i havent done bad in 45 years

I've never used them and its the 1st thing I removed.
if you used the drill correctly you wont have problems.
most problem with drills is that folks expect the drill bit go throw still like butter.put to much pressure then the drill bit bites and walla..
either the drill bit snap or tries to take you with it.
thats why I prefer belt driven drills for that reason,geared drills has no give just keeps on going or burns motor out.
so the moral of the story is let the drill bit do the work.

Are you talking about the pendulum action lever, 0-4 on the side near the blade?

Near that lever, there's another, smaller one, apparently it adjusts an airflow to clear chips. (But is never seems to do anything)

Perhaps it is blocked somehow, but my older one has the same facility though it just 'blows' and does not have a little lever.

That little lever which is a complete and utter waste of time and just won't shift? It isn't you.

Iff ime totally honest ime begining to hate my Hitatchi 18V drills ive changed from the Makita...i just cant hang with these Lithium batterys,Unlike Ni/Cad you get no warning at all and then all of a sudden they fall off the cliff and are as flat as a witches t*t...with the Cads they start reducing in power and give you a warning.

Not a fan of angle grinders or chop saws. Not for any other reason really than that they throw crap all over the place behind the blade when you're cutting owt.

Totally agree, I dumped my crap jigsaw, bought a decent Metabo jigsaw with proper guides that got good reviews on forums etc. I bought decent blades, bosch and others. I used straight edges as guides, varied speeds etc. and on most materials beyond thin sheet the blade will still bend away one way at the bottom. I tried loads of different blade pitches and types, different speeds made sure the blade was in the guide and still it wandered off and bent. After asking around this appears to be a feature of jigsaws, the blade always has a slight bias and will wonder where the guide is not supporting it.

The answer on thicker material is to start new cuts frequently so the blade doesn't wander too far, don't cut too close to the line and tidy up with the router. I only use jigsaw when I don't have a choice. PITA. I had to use it on the toylander to cut out the 12mm MDF, it wandered around like a drunk.

I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with jigsaws, I thought it was just me and I was a useless c@ck!

not when your 30ft up a ladder firing screws in...even when a Cad is almost flat it still puts in 25mm screws into uvpc facia boards
