My parts washer, the low solvent degreaser won't clean jack and I can't have anything that flammable with my set up

Shot it full of Jizer, that'll even shift cr4p from politicians

Ah... and on that note, and not quite a tool, but axle stands. I hate being underneath of 2 tons of metal with the wheels removed...

The legend within the Landy world - the Hi-Lift jack. Horrible things, used at Pay 'n Play sites by numpties. I've seen folk changing tyre with them and on one scary occasion saw two lads crawling about under a 90 trying to wrestle a spring back in to it's seat after it had popped out. OK if used correctly but it's a tool that has 101 ways of maiming you and only one way of safely jacking up your motor.

Polishers mainly just dont like them
Spent 9 months drilling with a mag drill nearly everyday allday ya lose all worrys about them kept right and used prooerly there perfectly safe
Dont like our tapping machine either its gears setup is ****** so every tap does the same speed which is too fast
cannot bare tablesaws since me mate ran one through his thumb they scare the crap out a me and I use them regular

Oooh, polishers.

I used to work on road tankers and used polishing machines a lot with them being stainless.

We used the most hideous contraptions which were basically a 9" grinder with the guard removed and a worm thread attached which we then put a big abrasive mop on.

One of the lads was polishing a weld on top of a tanker and didn't see a length of twine which was hanging down from a girder above him, the machine caught it and spun up right in his face. It knocked him for six and gave him two shiners and a free dermabrasion to his cheek

Well if your guard on your drill is dirty? then clean it,if you can't see what you're doing with the guard down then improve/replace the guard for a square plate one.....even the most cautious machine operator will become a cropper at some point,tis the law of average.

Portable rotating machinery = gloves.

Why is that? I get that you should never wear gloves near stationary tools but why should you with portable machines?

Perhaps so you maintain a better grip of them? Also, I guess you tend to be closer to the rotating part on a fixed machine but farther away with a portable machine?
So the danger of losing your grip on the portable machine is greater than the danger of getting caught in the spinning bits.

Why the hell was he wearing a glove in the first place? Static rotating machinery = no gloves. Portable rotating machinery = gloves. I had a whale of a time ripping the H&S signs off our workshop walls that were put up by someone without a clue

I think ricks role in OCC is fabrication? so therefor gloves would be the norm,maybe he was being lazy at the time and not taking the gloves off?

What type of portable machinery should one wear gloves with?

Get the right gloves and your grip can be greatly improved, plus they keep your hands warm.

I used to not hate but dislike using my Rothenburg plumbers gun,as every time you heat something up thats seized to release you have about 2 nano seconds to put it on the bench before the cherry red item went cold and the bl00dy thing always toppled over...i like it more now ive made a holder for it out of plywood so it wont topple...

Snap on bases are available for a couple of quid for these, I use them no problem.

ive only ever wrapped me knuckles on a bench drill when the drill dug in and spun the vice. a guard wouldnt have stopped that so i havent done bad in 45 years

I discovered a new tool I hate today, the one you lend to someone who breaks it and replaces it with an inferior thing. In this case, it was a bike chain de-linker, I lend my good one to my dad, he snapped the driving pin and bought a new one, I tried using it only to find that the driving pin and thread are both made of cheddar.

Mine is definitely the oxyacetylene. Don't like using it at all. Dunno why I have it in the shed at all, keep saying I'll get rid of it and end up needing it when I do.

Must change to oxy propane.

OK the tool I hate using is the hand held circular saw, never cuts straight , hard to support the work and get a cut... I bought one 10 years ago when I moved here I think I 've used it twice ... I 've got a table saw now, much nicer ....jeff....

circular hand held saws are dangerous to me im left handed so when the saw kicks back im in the line of fire
