I
have small tools for use with my small chuck so its not a massive problem either lol
That's the thing, keeping sizes relative. I can remember spending ages wondering why some people suggested that large machines and small pieces didn't generally mix, as obviously the machine is readily capable of doing fine work. Then, one day, I just happened to be stood at the side of a machine with a large chuck fitted, and the penny dropped. Having that rotating merrily away when you lean close to the chuck to peer at the piece you're working on would not be fun.
On a 3-1/2" machine or so, the chuck size is relative to the work so you can't really lean into the chuck when inspecting the piece closely. Do the same on a large machine though, and you suddenly have a foot or so of rotating face mangling equipment waiting to have you.
There's a lot to be said for having a small and large machine available, else using your technique and fitting a small chuck for fine work.
