trouble is u would need the lathe to help make oneI've loads of projects in mind; bench vice, belt grinder, ring roller just to name a few and a mill would be useful, as well as a lathe. Maybe I could get it and make a lathe.

Those big lathes only ever make scrap value as the size puts off the hobby engineers. I saw a lathe, 6ft between centres, go for £120 at a farm auction 2 weeks ago.The listing says 400kg

Never heard of Supreme lathes and certainly needs a good clean but it looks like a very stout piece of kit.

Sadly that does not seem to ring true for milling machines.....I thought I would pick up a decent one with 3 phase for 600 quid but not a bloody hope so far!

i have a harrison l5 and a myford .i prefer the myford for small parts as its much easier and quicker to use . horses for coursesWhat would you bee looking at bearing in mind most of us dont actually make money out of it.....even if the machine is capable we might not be

8' x 16' shed full of crap but I may be moving into the garage which is the same size but will have easier access and less crap in it. Just a normal domestic supply, 13 amps.
I have a Raglan 5 inch and its an awesome lathe (better than a myford) BUT after using my colchester Master 2500 with its DRO its so much more versatile I am soon to be selling my 5 inch to fund the purchase of a Miller. The key is to get a decent small chuck and its like having a myford anyway.its ok having a big cheap lathe but have u ever tried making small parts on one
You are going to struggle with large commercial machines with a 13 amp supply.
Lets put it like this I would not be taking a loan out to fund anything on that basis. (especially from a garage or shed)
There are threads on here on prices etc....I have recently gone through what you are...lol Doing it on the cheap is NOT safe or legal...
have small tools for use with my small chuck so its not a massive problem either lolThat's covering the main problem when using large lathes for small work. Trying to peer at something 1" wide when it's spinning in a 10" chuck would be unnerving at best.
