You can easily remove the head from a bridgeport to get i through the door, saving you about 18"
IS it just a Horizontal?? They do make both and a Universal called Tom Senior.
No I meant will it fit below the beams or does it have to go between them to save 3 inches etc..

Ah I see. Obviously its better to be able to remove head to get it through door but it then needs to be refitted to use. I was sure a guy I know had an issue when silting his in his garage.I think he was responding to Maker's post regarding door height.

I have a Kunming universal mill, which is a good quality Chinese copy of a German Deckel mill.
Stands about 5ft 6" tall but weighs about a ton. Power feed on all 3 axis and the table unbolts so you can either bolt the adjustable table that came with it on or fit large items like an engine block to the front for machining.
Cost me £700 and came with 4 different sized arbours and about 30 collets.
I power it from a cheap Chinese inverter, that cost be £80.

The (vertical) one Keith Rucker has seems like a really nice mill. Forget the name but have never seen one for sale in the UK.
Why do I never find bargains like that??? That seems better than a Bridgeport to me..

I would love to get it, it would open up a whole new world of things I could make but supposing I win it I still need to replace the motor, hire a trailer and get a friend with a tow bar to help, probably about £750 all in all. Plus I would ideally like to insulate the garage because it's bloody freezing out thereIf it were me I would snap it up....lol but there again I have 3 phase available.
. The problem is I'm skint so hopefully I can borrow some money from my wonderful nan and pay her back throughout the year.If I did end up with a taller Bridgeport It will easily fit in the garage but the head will need to come off to get through the door.

As I mentioned earlier you need to consider the weight of the thing, your going to need several strong friends or an engine crane and strops to shift that it probably weighs half a ton and will be top heavy.

I moved my Colchester master 2500 3 times with my old trailer (car) but I sold the trailer now. It was lifted ok with an engine crane though lol

Maybe I can buy an engine hoist, us it then take it back and tell them it was too big or something
Consider hiring a hoist or anything else you may need, cant have too many options when you decide to move it. Hydrolic jacks, blocks of wood, lift just a wee bit at a time and then do same again and keep it level, or just Hoist it up.Good luck

Might work! But most tool hire shops will rent you one fairly cheaply, don't forget strops too. Just be careful when shifting heavy machinery, it's all to easy to hurt yourself if you make a mistake. Don't try to catch it if it starts to fall!

If you have enough muscle power maybe, but the best way to move it is with an engine crane and lifting strops, use thick plywood if the ground is soft.
What are you planning to make? I still suggest a lathe is a more versatile machine if your only going to have one machine for a while.

I've loads of projects in mind; bench vice, belt grinder, ring roller just to name a few and a mill would be useful, as well as a lathe. Maybe I could get it and make a lathe
