Made a rectangular hole in the top of the microwave with a 4½" slitting disc in a Fakita, followed by a stone wheel in the Parkside cordless Dremel clone. That's the old, well burnt grille section I'm holding:
Currently propped up on the draining board slathered in oven cleaner inside. Hole is a lot neater than it looks!
I've had the new mesh in, lined up and drilled.
The mesh will get screwed up underneath from the inside with 8 screws. Not sure whether to run a very fine bead between it and the original casing with the free, slightly out of date stuff I've got tubes of?

Yep, noted. The screws will still provide electrical contact. I meant the intumescent more as a belt and braces gap sealer between old and new metal though it should be pretty tight.

It's all I had in a sorted box rather than sift through the "to be sorted one day screw box".
Anyway, taken out just now and replaced with pop rivets.
Going to put the cover back on and try it once I figure where this plastic cover goes...

Looks like a "Wheeee" cover to me. As in, fling it over your shoulder and say "Wheeee".

Worse. I'd guess he's probably already shook/tipped the machine to see if he can hear it rattle. Where is that screw is the question.

I was once told you haven't done a proper job unless there is some thing left over the screw is probably in the turn up on his trousers
