I've found it to be a bl00dy good vice. I must have had it 30 years and it's only broken once. I managed to break the nut thing inside it, though I was probably tightening it up with the aid of a mallet at the time
Fortunately I was able to source a couple of spares from Sealey for very little cost. I still have the other one, somewhere

A neighbour asked if I could fix this Kenya Carved Lamp. After it took a tumble.
A simple fix, a new lamp holder, the old metal one had no earth connection.
Bit of glue to level up and hold the new lamp holder in place.
A few weights.
A PAT was carried out, a new bulb and we are done.

This was finished the other day. I needed new gold leaf.
Nice, but old and tired plane came my way.
It was in dire need off attention.
It was odd that the plane was made up of differant ones, same type. As there was 3 hades of blue.
After a good cleen up, primer was applied.
Solvent wood dye was applied.
The about 5 to 8 coats of French polish.
Gold leaf.
Finished.
The sole and sides have been clear coated and a engineering wax applied.

A few small, but fun jobs.
Rust and seized Parallel vice.
Boiled in citric acid and polish paste had the parts clean.
I do like theses small drop oil cans. So versatile and handy.
This one was full of a sludge, boiling in wash up liquid, then Citric acid had it clean.
Now it is in use with my smoke cloak tools, it allows me to add the correct dye to the fluid in the smoke cloak devices.
One of two Brick bolsters, Well I had the Citric acid boiling.
I also had some paint on the go, so.

Top one finished in French polish, middle one tea stained bees wax and the bottom varnish.
A nice half round Surform. I even had a spare new blade for it.
Home made French polish, coffee ground was the colouring.
This set was paid for, a whole £0:50p.
Not much was needed to be done.
De-burr both ends and grind a new point on.
Then a hard wax finish.

Got this lovely old Stanley Electric Victor bench grinder from @Seadog the other day - made in New Britain USA..
Apart from the centre band, its all cast iron and weighs over 21kg which is a lot for a 6" grinder compared to anything today.
Working great but though I'd give it a bit of a spruce up.
Stripped a bit and sorted some iffy motor wiring in the base, bit of prep and paint, wire wheeled fasteners and socked in acf50, some new brass fasteners for a bit of bling and in keeping with the motor plate which I removed and had to modify some punch through brass rivets but went well. Bit of kitchen oak worktop offcut for base.
Buttoned up, so smooth & quiet, it barely moves. The rests are really nice nice chunky cast iron design.
I've 5 various bench grinders & polishers but this is definitely my fave 6" now, will dress the wheels tomorrow and cover it in sh*t

This came my way, as the owner could not get it to work.
Getting it to bits was made difficult by a bent thread.
This needed some heat, a bit of force and a bit od swearing.
Last of my brush primmer.
I had to use a new C clip, as the old one was bent to bad to reuse.
All done.

This RN Bone saw came my way the other day.
Just good enough to cut some Pusser's Shag.
This was very tight, it looks like some one had used a Loctite on it.
The finish here was dead, it was breaking down into a sticky mess.
It turned out to be some good Box wood.
Took the Danish oil very well.
All done.

A nice, complete Wall light.
The glass is original. You can tell that by:
The thickness of the glass.
The end where it fits the springs.
The flattened bulge.
A quick test showed it was fuel tight, but the wicks were rotten.
Looping a wick into a situation like this is not really approved, it should be one wick, for one burner.
2 new wicks, a bit shorter than I expected, but the specs sat they are correct.
Exhaust style paint, on the old reflector, as we have an issue with getting a new one.
Opps.
The cost a a new reflector is to much, as is the cost of tin plating one item. So, taking advise I now am using it as a heat refactor.
About 200 to 400 wats of heat will be reflected back into the direction of the lamp.

Well after my disaster in the "what I broke today thread" I finally got the replacement sump and built it all back up again (for the 3rd time) and so far so good. No untoward noises, nice smooth clutch pedal and a decent bite point. To say I am glad to have this car finished is a huge understatement, it just seemed that everything that could go wrong did, bolts fighting to come out, sockets dropped into barely accessible nooks and crannies.
Would have worked out cheaper and simpler to get a garage to do it but got there in the end!

next thing workshop related is the need for more offroad parking. there's only one place left...
this took hours, the absolute gits that put this wall up used 6" block. who does that?!
another long overdue job was to get power out the front. if id had any sense when i was building up the place originally i would have put water out here too.. however that's not happening now, so just power it is.
and im powering it off a fused spur, so i can switch it off when not in use.

Had to demolish an old garage built of those when I was about 13 with nothing more than a sledge hammer and a bolster.

Trying yet another fence/wind break behind Mrs Robo's "solar garden" at the stables, so far we've had a woven wattle panel, bamboo and mesh which the wind & weather have all wrecked.
