Boiled in Citric acid and attacked with a wire brush.

On the Dibber we found a name Elewell.

Then given a wax coating when warmed.

It bits. The jaws are not off here. As I needed a lot of heat and a new set of Impact bits.

Boiling in citric acid.

Pressured washed off.

I was tempted to leave unpainted, but to be honest the finish was not good.

So we paited it.

Any flaws in the casting will be shown when gold leave is applied.

i might have slightly overloaded my trailer with wall debris when taking it to the tip. by about 150%....

it'll be reet! turned into bugger when i went over a particularly aggressive speed bump and bent a axle so the tyre was cambered enough to be hitting the bodywork even when empty.

now the correct fix is to put a 1 ton plus solid axle underneath. the fix available to me is a porta-power and a sledge hammer.

its straight again... for now.

You can take a trailer to the tip?

Here it's a max of 2 black sacks of rubble, 4 times a month. Same with plasterboard.

Yup. there are trailer size limits before i need to register each visit with a yearly limit same as vans.. this trailer is about 1% under said limit.

theoretically its 8 bags of rubble at a time but there is no requirement for you to bag it...

guy at the gate said "got a good load there, ill call that 8 bags and the week resets tomorrow"

in other words, get it unloaded and i don't want to see you here again today.

plaster board is also 8 sacks or 2 sheets.

can even take asbestos and tyres now. in other words its back how it used to be.

nothing too exciting. just a bit of lorry fiddling this evening. replaced the reversing camera screen mount due to brittle breakage, and fitted a better phone mount.

this was simple, ish, 5 holes and a 2 degree bend to make it follow the contour of the dash.

Today (just now) I fixed the gear change on my Daughter's car.
She rang and said she had broke down.
She was stuck at the side of the road and couldn't get reverse, first third or fifth?

I immediately thought a shift cable had popped off, so headed off with cable ties, tying wire Ans a few tools to see if I could make a temporary repair

Arrived and found all cables attached and no reason it shouldn't go into the missing gears, but after a bit of feeling about I found the positive battery terminal cover was jamming one of the cable.

Retrieved the cover, put it back on the battery and everything is back to normal.

I wasn't expecting such a quick simple and permanent fix.

Also a car fix today. Water ingress into the electronic handbrake mechanism had resulted in rusted and stripped the splines in the mechanism on the nearside of the Volvo. Handbrake firmly stuck on, refusing to come off even through vida. Luckily on the drive at home rather than elsewhere.

Stripped down both sides and two new calipers and motors fitted and all hopefully fixed, offside not far behind.

Would prefer a mechanical handbrake but not the modern way...

next thing workshop related is the need for more offroad parking. there's only one place left...

this took hours, the absolute gits that put this wall up used 6" block. who does that?!

another long overdue job was to get power out the front. if id had any sense when i was building up the place originally i would have put water out here too.. however that's not happening now, so just power it is.

and im powering it off a fused spur, so i can switch it off when not in use.

this is going to take a while.

8 bags a week....

i probably wont bother actually bagging the rest, i just needed a idea of the volume i could get in 8 bags. it takes longer to fill the bags than to shovel the soil...

Had a lovely Yamaha RD350 VPVS in.

Full restoration but none runner unfortunately.

My daughter learning the ropes with the carbs, she enjoys fixing stuff like her dad!.

There was a fair few problems that all mounted up to a none runner, mainly pulse coil air gap and then float heights..

Went for a ride yesterday, forgot how nice these were!, a lot more refined than the 350lc!.

I went in to check oil pump stroke ans found the oil tank line kinked and folded over, that could have seen his freshly rebuilt engine off in no time!, a GSXR1100 carb slide spring has saved the day there..

Finally I got the silencer off of my twist-and-go.
However, it was a bit manky.

I found a 1.5mm piece of scrap, roughly shaped to fit, and did a superb job of welding it to the rusty, perforated bracket.

Now for a good coat of VHT after its soak in phosphoric overnight. A good excuse to fire up the barby tomorrow to get it dry and nice and warm.

Is that VHT 18SWG or 22? Might need 2 coats

That long hair - keep it inside the jacket, tied back somehow. I've never seen in real life the horrendous effects of long hair being caught in rotating tools that we were shown films of in the first weeks of our engineering course many years ago, but I have heard it once from a distance. She might not be using rotating tools now, but get into good habits early so they stick.

She might not be using rotating tools now, but get into good habits early so they stick.

We do that at home when she uses our M12 drills and grinders etc.

Also she knows to be careful around car engines when they are running (getting a fleece cuff pulled into the belts etc as well as her hair).

Definitely worth mentioning though.

I fixed this Ingersol rand vacuum pump yesterday, the repair kit was expensive, ~£250, but was a lot cheaper than the quote I got from Scientific Products to do the repair, they quoted £6000! A lot of money either way for a few o rings.
